I run a restoration shop so I have everything needed to do this, but it can be done at home.
First I washed, scrubbed and degreased them very well. After drying them they went in the blast cabinet with fine glass bead to remove most of the anodizing and it leaves them very smooth. Next I hung them in the spray booth and sprayed them with Transtar self etch primer. These wheels had some pitting from brake dust so I needed to lay down 3 coats of Transtar high build ez sand urethane 2k primer on top of the self etch. Now the fun part, sanding. I started with 120 grit went to 220 grit, 320 grit and finshed with 400 Grit dry. After cleaning with wax and grease remover I sealed them with Transtar sealer and went wet on wet with the PPG base coat.

The base coat has a 24 hour window in which it needs to be cleared, so Ill be able to clear them in the AM.

Great tip about the high build primer, thanks! I have some D90's that need attention. What about minor curb rash- do you file and bondo fill, or ?????

Also. what's the paint code for the PPG silver? Is it thought to be a good match to the OEM painted finish, or is it supposed to look like silver anodizing?

I bought a quart of Honda Silver Metallic Dupont ChromaBase paint and ChromaClear soap dry clear to redo the Forgelines and Modas. That should be pretty durable since it cost me $155.00.
