Nothing's free....including car forums....and if it seems to be free, it's certainly being subsidized in other ways. My Rennlist membership is the best 928 money I spend. Largest payback. I learn a lot and I minimize technical "gotchas." Then again, Rennlist is monitored to keep it from getting out of hand or becoming a soapbox or mostly ads by a zillion dealers. Lo Miler seems to be on the fringes with a lot of people.
BTW, I like when people post cars for sale. LoMiler, btw, is not the only one although he tries to give the appearance of a relatively hi-volume dealer. I suspect his volume is too low to warrant being a sponsor. If it's true that he has a good eBay rating, that may mean something though. People aren't too quiet on feedback if they buy a bad car.
I think we need to be cautious or the Rennlist rules could be interpreted to discourage many other listings of cars for sale. I've never bought a car as a direct result of Rennlist...yet...since I usually hear about them through other means first. However, if I were looking for a really top shape car maintained by an enthusiast, Rennlist is the way to go. Not a lot of "screaming deals" listed here. Mostly solid, well maintained cars at top of market prices.
Conversely, cars that are listed on eBay and other places that APPEAR to be in top shape, sometimes are reduced to rubble by the knowledgeable eyes and experience of people on this forum. Defects and questionable descriptions are pointed out that I'd never have noticed. That's educational and of value to me as a future 928 buyer (I'm not through buying...since I'm still chasing the "perfect car." My cars are all great...but my latest 928 does not have sport seats or LSD. Grass is always greener...
Every forum will have one or two personalities that may "grate" on quite a few people, but I think there's room for diversity of opinion and "stimulating" discussion. When it get's into a hissing match based on personality or you feel that your ox is being gored, that can go over the line when emotion enters.
I've hissed off my share of people too, but it's almost always when I bring up my perception of the value trend for 928s or point out what's reported in Excellence, or the eBay sales record, etc. It's a topic I try to stay away from and obviously not popular on Rennlist.
If LoMiler or anyone else can flip a car and find a happy buyer, more power to them. It helps the overall market if the buyer becomes another happy 928 enthusiast.
There is an ignore function on the forum (I guess). I've never seen the need to use it. You guys would go crazy on one of the 968 forums. One or two listers have gotten so obnoxious in pushing product that I don't go there much anymore. We don't have that on Rennlist...at least, not yet. So far, there's a healthy give and take with not too much "us vs. them" stuff.
As an example, I think the recent exchange over how best to resolve the NLA fuel hose issue is group thinking at its best on how to solve a common concern. Not everyone agrees, but everyone has the same general goal. Finding out the best alternative and getting it installed on my 928 before I have an engine fire is worth a lot to me.

I absolutely agree with Randys post.
Forget about what it takes to run the Rennlist, there is a cost factor for sure and I expect that annual dues pay for this. However, if we actually believe the words of "Mo Liar", he is making a pretty nice profit piggy-backing on the hard work of others efforts. I wouldn't expect him to pay for sponsorship as he doesn't pay the state of Indiana its due in income tax, the Indiana DMV, the United States Government or any other states fees for registration and titling of the several cars he proclaims to sell. He constantly talks about how intelligent he is and how he knows all of the "loop holes" in all of the systems. I suspect he is keen enough to figure out how to still sell cars through the Rennlist regardless of the guidelines Randy has laid out. Does this sound like a scam artist to anyone? Never the less,if he DOES make as much as he says he does, wouldn't it be a good gesture to support the avenue that has allowed you such profits?
The biggest problem that I have, is believing anything that comes out of his twisted mind. I think it is important to all of us that we are informed and protected by each other. THAT is the point of all of this. Remember, this ISN'T about the actual cars he sells, it's about Todd and how he sells them.

OK without getting all your panties in a bunch, and without being argumentative. Before I go read the old figures again about what servers can handle etc......
FACT -I was at Ferrarichat hacker before i was here back when there was no membership. Rob didn't want membership money for running the servers or site, certain f car owners wanted a way of fencing off riff raff from the wealthy fcar owners who didn't want to deal with everyone else. Private area forums.
FACT - I have been at rennteam as long as i have been here. It allows any user to upload unlimited photo's with unlimited size even have their own photo area. Many people have asked the owner to sell items to offset any costs associated with the site, but he refuses. He also has stated that porsche does not like boards that make money discussing porsche.
FACT- 6speedonline is also unpaid last time i checked, though with sponsors.
MATH if rennlist has 20,000 members at 18.00/year = 360,000.00 + sponsorships say 70 @ 1500.00 each.
That's $450,000.00 income that other sites are not getting.
GIVE me some facts about the costs of this site, why the secrets?
Lets get it out in the open like adults in an open society. If you can show me facts and figures that are contrary i would pay a fee to keep it going along with good moderation. But do the math in the open with proof. No drama, just facts.
Let's discuss why rennlist can't operate at break even with all that income while other equivalent sites refuse donations????????????????????

I have absolutely no problem with someone making money, but that is not the reason given or claimed when people are "encouraged" to support rennlist. Come out and say we are a very successful operation and we like profit, NOT we need some "contributions" to keep it afloat.
And if my numbers are anywhere near right, I find it odd that randy works for free for a successful business.
I would galdly buy a RENNLIST baseball cap for $20 that cost $8 to make.
