Can’t speak for Liftmaster, but I installed a Homelink mirror in my truck and programmed it for both types of Craftsman openers. That's more than either one of the Craftsman openers can do. The old ones only work with the old openers and same with the new ones. The Homelink is a two step process… one that sets up the frequency and another that sets up the code.

Sometimes you have to do something with your existing door opener to put it in ‘learn’ mode. User manuals can usually be found online if you don’t have one for your Litmaster.

Its been a year or so since I looked into it, but own Lincoln came with homelink, and it turned out to incompatible with any newer garage door lifts. To make it work we would have to install a homelink receiver that acts like a push button, and that irked me enough to skip it.

OTOH my garage is storage and work, cars don't drive in and out, they get pushed in.

I bought a 3 button, LiftMaster/Chamberlain/(Most Sears Units) keychan fob that came with velcro. I hide it in a cubby-hole in the car.

I don't recommend putting Homelink (or your garage door opener) in a car if you plan to leave it on a driveway. All a thief needs to do is break the window and now they are in your garage.

How old is your Lincoln? Most Homelink setups work with "rolling codes" which are the latest. It is a bitch to program as you have 30 seconds from pressing the learn button to getting to the unit to program it...

Yes, VW dome light, painted classic gray to match the interior. Got several of them on e-bay.

Nice job!! You did a great job making it look like it belongs in there. Was there a specific model light that you got?? Beetle, Jetta, etc. or is it just VW dome light that fits all??

Early in the thread there's a reference to a Homelink kit that might be available from Roger. I'm interested.

The way to solve the issue is to wire the Homelink to a +12V switched feed so it is only active when the car is switched on.

The thief can do the same (break in and find) with a hidden transmitter that is battery powered only there is no fail-safe mechanism of needing the car enabled, too.

Golf/Jetta Mk4 lights take different bulbs than the Porsche (Hella) units, so I bent the contacts back just a little and the LED bulbs work. It’s supposed to be an early '05 model, the P/N is 3B0947291BB41. The B41 designates a black color. I saw gray and beige on other cars on the lot, so those colors should be available too.

On another point the Homelink was powered by the sunroof lead so it only worked when the car was on (key in).

My shop has manual garage doors. Will Roger be offering a trunk monkey that hops out and opens manual doors? Maybe offer him in a 928sRus t-shirt with a German accent.

1999 Continental, and GDO is a Sears about 2005 ish. Googled a little, found some more info, basically says go to the HomeLink site and follow the vehicle and device specific instructions and ignore whats in the cars owner manual. Will give that a try soon.

Scott-absolutely. If someone wants to break in they can. But out of site, out of mind. I also have a remote lock out on my garage so I can turn off the receiver but still open it from inside the house.

I decided to bail on the homelink in the sunroof idea and switch to plan B. Instead, I'll take the homelink mirror I installed in my truck and install it in the Porsche... giving it the ability to open and close either door. Then I'll install a homelink in my truck using an overhead console I just picked up and install auto dim compass mirror.

Ironically, I have a few of the MK4 light lying around. Roger supplied me with pig tails needed to hook them up, but I've been slow to get around to it. Mine are grey and my interior is black. Looks like I maybe painting mine too. Plus I need to figure out what LED bulbs to install.
