Default Supra MKIV Aerotop V8 Turbo project

I thought you V8 guys may appreciate this...

Well this is the project and whats done to date!

Parts and work done so far...

Toyota 1UZ alloy 4.0 V8
Supra R154 5 speed box
Tilton hydrolic release bearing
Tilton triple plate sintered clutch
Custom spun flywheel
Custom cast bellhousing
TRD ****
Linkplus G3 ECU
Custom loom
Twin 10" radiator fans
S2000 engine start switch
Custom water pipes
Custom alloy intake

All the maintenance bits like mounts and water pump etc...

Still need to do:

Custom driveshaft
Move shifter
Make gearbox mount
Buy some turbos!

Stage 1 is basically get it going NA. To be completed in a month or so. 250WHP

Stage 2 is throw a turbo (T51R or GT45R if single or twin GT28 or similar) and water injection running 10:1 compression and circa 13psi for around 550-600WHP.

Stage 3 custom CP pistons and rods, head work and cam, more boost (mid 20's) and 800+WHP

The goal for the car is to have a 10 second street car that can handle a little circuit fun and be a comfortable GT car.

I would be keen to hear from any twin turbo guys here to see what turbos they used etc

Sorry you are offended by this thread Keith, I am seeking feed back from the forced induction V8 community here, specifically what turbos have been used and pipe routing etc in a tight bay environment. The thread is background to help those in the know assess the suitability of their turbo choice to my project cheers.

Biff! Boom! Smack!

Question: What's the difference between an 800 hp Supra and a 500 hp Supra?

N?

Normy,

A few thousand dollars and possibly a transmission, and about a second off the 1/4 time, and lower boost on the circuit... and more ladies hehe

what the hell did that engine come out of anyway, a late model Tundra? When did toyota ever build a V8, unless it was in a Lexus LS sedan.

The supra is so kitch to me, especially that front bumper, hell for all i know it could be stock , but it looks like crap.

Sorry, not impressed with 250 RWHP. And i doubt you get your 500RWHP figure without having to shell out anoter 10K.

Have fun with the Supra, but you wont find many interested in that stuff on this board.

The engine came out of an Ambulance I think, but its in...

Toyota Crown
Toyota Soarer
Toyota Cressida
Toyota Tundra
Toyota Hilux
Toyota Tachoma
Toyota Celsior
Toyota Aristo
Lexus LS400, GS430, SC400 etc etc

And probably I lot more I dont know about, been making them since the 90's till today. They make a 4.0, 4.3, and 4.7 version.

Toyota have been racing that V8 for a while now...

I am doing a Top Secret wide body kit...

Yes 250WHP on a stock NA 4.0 isnt impressive, its not a stressed motor.

And it will easily make 500WHP in a turbo config under a bar of boost, and that will cost about $2,000 to do. Based on two VG30 used turbo's, making some headers myself, buying a decent IC, finish my water injection system, and running some oil lines. And yes its been done before... the stock rods and pistons at 10:1 compression ratio are good for over 600WHP. I have been researching these motors for about a year now and have seen them make it on the dyno. 10K would be stage 3 with the custom CP pistons etc. Sorry thats just a fact of the motor the alloy block is good for over 1000WHP stock.

Thanks for your interest

Awesome but whats wrong with the 2jze engine. They can safely make 500 hp on low boost and it would be an easier/cheaper alternative

Thanks for the positive comment Kevin

Nothing wrong with the 2JZGTE UNTS1! Awsome engine makes 500 all day long and over 1000 on big turbo applications. And thats the problem! Its easy to do and pretty cheap! I never take the easy often walked path So far the retail on the project to take it to completion is documented at NZD35,000 including the car price. Of course I am doing a lot myself with help from mates, so its costing mostly just parts (which I get deals on here and there) except specialist labour like driveshaft fabrication. Unlike the Porsche I modded, every cent is accounted for this time! Actually the torque cruve is whats very important to me, and the bigger displacement V8 gives a very nice one turbo charged.

BTW Ryan, I just looked up the power figures since you were not impressed... the stock 4.5L Porsche V8 (219HP) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porsche_928)

And the 4.0L Toyota V8 (290HP) I have the 1UZFE (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_UZ_engine)

So over 70HP more in the Toyota and .5L less displacement... not too shabby considering the Toyota V8 is just a taxi motor

With 10 to 1 compression, wouldn't you be better off rebuilding it now for something more like 8 to 1?

I had a Supra back in the day, just a commuter car all stock. Functional small sporty car with good build quality.

Supra's are awesome cars and can be built to kill even without a V8. Try a 7.92ET@182 mph. THAT'S fast!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nJN7AYH2Huw

The car in the video is from Boost Logic and they are helping me with my project that is a single turbo mid mounted.

I went and saw my car yesterday and it will be running next week.
