Got my 83's AT serviced recently. The report back didn't come back so good: lip seals hardened and cracking with metal shavings in the pan.
The plan is to run the tranny until theres nothing left and then either rebuild then or replace the tranny entirely. The thing I'm wondering is whether or not the MB tranny has any AMG parts that will work in the old slushbox. Basically the plan is to make the tranny stronger and able to except more power when the time comes.

83 was the first year of the 4 speed........a very strong tranny in stock form......they do make a full line of AMG internals for this tranny...BUT they are pricey......if you are running anywhere near stock HP....or even up to double an 83S....I would just stay with the stock tranny.....intl sells warrantied used units or rebuilt units for pretty reasonable......I heard a rebuilt with AMG internals 4 speed will cost around $7K.....installed.....but am not 100% sure...however the AMG tranny is rated for 1000HP....vs about 500 tops for the stock one
