I managed to set fire to part of my 'shop', today. Small, but smokey! I have been busy with work-work, and was trying to catch up on the liftbars, and tensioners. I was welding in long runs, and didn't notice that I'd set fire to some rags. Being an idiot, I picked up the burning rags, and beat them against the floor, which promptly scattered flaming debris all over! I regained my senses and ran for an extinguiser, which easily put it all out. Scared the **** out of me, though!

Nothing major damaged, except my new HF welding helmet, and the gas hose for my welder. No Porsche parts were damaged!

It's going to take a week or so to get back up to speed. My regrets to all that have been waiting so patiently. The SAI tensioner brackets are almost done, so I'll try to finish them up so I can take them to the plater. I'd almost finished assembling the last one, when I heard a hiss from the melting gas hose!

Anyway, my throat is sore from the smoke, so I'm going to starting beerin' up, now.

Glad to hear you are unscathed, Ken. Sounds like a good excuse to start building your new shop, eh?

Thanks Andrew! I'm surprised that I didn't do more damage, or set my hair on fire or something.

I had just started clearing space for the new carport/little shop, but was hoping to finish what I had before building it. I'm behind in welding, in part, because I spent a few days digging/leveling the back part of the yard, so I could relocate 'Honey Bunny's garden, to make room for me.

I was wondering what that smoke was out on your side of town.

Do the 928 cars not have a center jacking point?

I was about to ask if you would consider making a version of these for the 944 series, but then remembered we have a center jack point, so the bar would be sort of pointless (not to mention issues with the already tight ground clearance).

Keith,

Truut, I-an-I did Catch a Fire, sa.

...

Bill,

The 928 is too heavy for center jack points. (The later 944/968s don't have them either.) I looked at making one for the 924/944/968, but realized I didn't have the time, the space, or a 944. Even with the center jack point, they don't have good places to put stands. Here's kinda what I was thinking:

Just a few minor details... lol

Since you seem to know about jacking points on the cars, why are the front round points not supposed to be used on the 944 models? They look like they are the exact same setup as the middle and rear one.

Bill,

From what I gather, the front, round non-jack point is used in the factory to carry the bare body around, but will not support the weight with the drivetrain installed. The inner frame rail on 928s is also a bad place for jacking. Most cars have big dents in them from improperly lifting there. (928 Motorsports sells a fix for this.)

It takes me about 5 minutes to get my car up on jack stands with Ken's liftbars. Great investment!

Matt,

I just finished all the round bars this afternoon, but for paint. Yours should be ready tommorrow.
...

I should finish all the square ones over the next few days. I put the buy buttons back on the website, as I will be all caught up by the end of the week.
...

Greg,

Thanks! I forget how convenient these are until I go to use them again, myself.

Walt,

I replied. See if any of your mates in Vanc. want one, too!

(Granted it is tough to fit more than one or two pairs in a 928, and each bar weighs 11.5kg!)

There is a chance in the near future that I will be travelling up to the border to drop off some small things for my sister, or, I may going directly to her place in Vancouver to drop off her stuff.

If you like, I could possibly drop off some bars to our northern 928 brothers, if the bars are ready to go, and if Ken and I can figure out how to get them to me, and if I end up going at all. Is that enough ifs?

Anyway, let me know if there is any interest in a drop off. -Ed
