Here's a pic of how mine turned out, with before & after pics. I used new EFI rated lines, about 8-9" in length; my original 90 degree fittings; one set of new EFI clamps & reusing one set. Ended up with two "U" shaped hoses. I made sure the hose on the right doesn't come into contact with anything since the original hose was shaped a bit different. The original hose on the right showed cracks when I bent it & it was apparently leaking gas into the wiring harness right below it. When I lifted the wiring harness, gas dribbled out at the splice of the covering. Scary to see that, gas in with wiring! Per advice from Jim B at 928 Int., I didn't have to get the factory replacement for that right hose.
Both hoses are the same size, just the pic makes the one on the right look longer. The factory U shaped hose was within an inch of the length of the new one. I was going to make the main U shaped hose the exact same length as the original, but the extra inch seemed to give it more loop to it & the hope is that would lessen any chance of it ever pinching. Seems to be working just fine. My factory U hose looked darn good when I cut it open. As Tony said, it actually has a plastic sheathing.

Don,
Mine is the same as Mels and the one I took off the 86.5.
The 87 is an early flip up wing so maybe had the older style.
With that extra rigid pipe I would use a longer piece of hose to maintain the 3-3/4" minimium bend rad. There is the room to do that.

Does it have the "Do It Yourself" manual transmission, or the superior "Fully Equipped by Porsche" Automatic Transmission?

Houston we have a problem.
I just looked at the hose on my GTS and the design is totally different and as per the picture in post#6.
Here is the problem - The bend rad of that very small piece of hose is a fraction over 1" and that is not achievable with any readily available hose.
Back to the drawing board on that one. I wonder why the part is NLA? Same reason maybe.
Anybody who bought the kit for an 87 and later car I will contact you separately. A replacement for that hose or money back whatever.

I thought there was a US law regarding parts availability. Is it only 10 years? I thought it was 15, which would mean the later style (87-95) hose should still be available for the cars manufactured in 95.
The original hose material is quite different from these substitutes, which a semi-rigid inner tube, IIRC, encased in a sheath.

I ended up replacing all my rubber fuel in braid.

All,
I gave all the braided line info back at the end of January. The thread title is "85-86ers Fuel Line Preventative Maintenance", posts 5 shows pics and post 8 has the company info. (Sorry I do not know how to post thread links so you will have to do a search). Can someone provide a link here for me?

Been looking for a hose to meet the requirments of the 87 and newer U shape fuel hose.
So far not good.
Byrdmans hose is metal braided which is great for external protection but does nothing for the ID of the hose. I am not discounting it but until I see the design parameters its only a possibility.
I will keep searching.

H,
You have a point about the front hose - maybe.
OK so the question is why put a U in the rear and not in the front.
If not a vibration, movement or natural frequency reason was it clearance for parts/cables??
We find the answer and we can solve the problem.
Nicole,
Any contacts in 928 engineering land?

Although we question some of the original Porsche engineer's design decisions, I have to believe they had a pretty sound rationale as to why they made the parts as they did. Let's just hope they didn't make decisions based on economy of process. This was a luxury car, after all. Given the careful engineering of the 928, I still suspect that each decision had a sound reason. I wouldn't want to stray too far from that.
That said, I also believe that, over the past 20 years or so, materials available to us today must have improved and we're wise to research the better, modern replacements. Once the smoke settles on this issue, I will send an order out to what I feel is the better solution.
