Sure I fix stuff worse than this quite often. Most all the front end stuff should be available for $3-4k. Actually I just took a car off the rack today so I could start it next week.

Sigh, I have been reliably informed that the car is in parts already. I'll just have to keep looking for the next one. I'll keep you in mind should we come across one that's a bit twisty.

One point to remember is "fixed" the car would NOT be worth the $14,000 even if that were the value pre crash , since it is now experienced and not original paint plus a likely salvage title. Insurance companies wisely opt to punt when the initial estimates for repairs equal 50-75 % of the market value. They have all been sucked into a repair where the initial estimate proves wrong and suppliments for "hidden" damages just keep adding up. Plus car rentals often increase the total claim. That car should have sold at a salvage auction for $2,000- $3,000 so the net cost to the insurance co normally would be maybe $11,000-12,000 LESS the deductable.

Since the owner has been paid off and is still in possession of the car, I assume there is no salvage title and no auction by Insuance company. Could be wrong. Owner could have made a buy back deal with insurance company.

Owners can opt to pay insurance companies the salvage value of the car and keep it. Therefore the owner can still have a branded titled car. Insurance adjusters in California must fillout salvage paperwork with the DMV (often this only happens if the claimant pisses the adjuster off or a bank is involved). If the adjuster does not send in the paperwork or if the paperwork gets lost it will not be branded.

We have on occasion purchased such cars from owners who bought back the car from the insurance company and they had salvage titles. We payed the owners more for the car than what they were allowed to buy back for salvage so the owner came out ahead and the insurane company did not have to pay an auction to store and sell it. The adjusters often underestimate what a 928 might be worth as salvage and simply look at is as another "totalled wreck" worth only a few hundred dollars.

The wreck is in the eye of the beholder and what to do with it afterwards. Gerry

Just to be clear.
I am now the owner of the car.
My business partner purchased it from the Insurrance company for me.
No salvage title.
Car is being parted out.

Guys, my desire was to save a 928 simply because I drooled for a Cas/burg S4 at a fair price. I wasn't concerned about the title statement(TX is a pretty free and easy state about that). I was concerned that another S4 that was so nice is going to the breaker.

Roger has invested time, money and sweat in the car, and as badly as he feels about it, it's a business and I respect that completely. It would've been nice to try restoring it, but I already have too many projects in-hand now. I need a complete, running, driving Cas/Burg to be happy.

I wonder, what the girl will drive from now on... It probably won't be nearly as fancy.

What color is the interior? Have pictures of the steering wheel?
