Bill,
yes, I'm afraid so. You have an alarm box that is not capable of any diagnostics. Alarm-Diagnostics start with the Porsche (Megamos) alarm unit which was fitted starting in the 1991 model year. The updated manual (v1.4) that is available to you says it all.

Bill, it must be nice to be "missing" the top third of the throttle due to loose cable yet not notice it. This is one of those long-term Porsche issues not limited to the 928. In my former ex used-to-be-mine 911, it was loose from the factory, and needed to be adjusted every year or so. It's a real cheap tune-up, but I ended up with a new cable every few years.

No telling what actually stretches the cables though. ???

Anything would probably work just fine if I can install XP on it.
Bill - XP will run on a PII as long as RAM is >384 (slow, but runs), although W2k is a better fit. XP is not as "nice" for, um, re-imaging with the sw key. Assuming XP is a requirement?? Not sure if I have any more PIII's around, so PII-400 may be the fastest...worth a shot though, if Theo is running on a P-266

Will pm you soon- need to figure some time for A/C and TB adjust in the near future as well

Bill
So you had the same fault I did about a year ago....but it was found on the spanner....

You could load the program to my laptop & bring it to Sharks in the Park!!!! The battery should last about 3 hours...That plus the spanner would diagnose just about any 88+ 928!!!!

ok, just to be clear: the 266 is really not what you want, and will not help stability. Take a 1Ghz cpu and you'd be fine. Try the p2/400 and see if it works for you. No guarantees however, but nothing to loose either.

@Brian: there's a 12p interface cable too and that will connect the 1987 to the diag module. No need to show tears... The 1987 sould be diagnostics capable if you have the right software in the controllers. It seems to be upgradable but we haven't done that yet.

Kirt:

I may have a Win2k install disk. Accordig to the requirements, Win2K is supported. Anytime on the AC and TB.

Brian:

I think you can get an 88 eprom from John Speake.

dr. Bob: Yeah, I'm out of adjustment at the firewall.
