Default Window motor "fix" & would a new LH make the car run better?

Hi Y'all,

I pulled my car out of winter storage today and enjoyed an absolutely beautiful first day of the '07 season!

I suffered LH "brain death" in Novembr, and just put my JDS rebuilt LH unit in and the car today. It fired up and ran perfectly. Really perfectly. Better than before, it seems. Is that possible?

For some reason, my driver side window motor conked out over the winter. Did you know that you can remove the motor without removing the whole winder assembly? Removing the two Torx bolts allows you to pull the housing off the coils/screwshaft thingy, which you can then unscrew and remove.

Things didn't look too bad inside, and I confirmed switch function and proper power at the motor plug, so something was definitely wrong with the motor. There's a little black box on the motor that contains "overload protection circuitry"--thanks to Theo Jenniskens for identifying that. I removed that and soldered in a wire jumper, and that allowed the motor to function properly.

Well, almost properly; there's no overload protection, obviously, but hey, it was in the mid-70's today! I had to have the window down!

Anyway, I thought it might be of interest to anyone with window winder troubles.

Hello Chaad
"Sometimes" some minor functions in the LH ECU can fail before the show stopper. Like WOT switch recognition, O2 loop issues.

So you may bnot be mistaken in your observation. Several other of my customers have made similar remarks after their LH ECUs have been rebuilt.

Thanks, John. It makes me think I should get my MAF refurbished, too; lots of little improvements can really add up, I imagine!

Depends how many miles on the MAF - worth getting it checked out if more than 80k miles with typical usage.

Also check out with diagnostic tester for knock/Hall sensor fault codes.
