OK - here's the scoop.
My mirrors won't adjust on my '89...
I know they are getting power as they move when using the memory function. I have verified that the mirror control switch and the change-over switch pins are in their correct position.
I have swapped out both switches as well to known-good units.
I am stumped... I cannot see any obvious wire issues (breaks, cracks etc.). When it comes to electrical work, I am a just slightly better than an complete novice. Using the wiring diagram to verify the pins were correct was a monumental breakthrough!
Any suggestions?

Troy,
Check the connections on the mirror memory module its a module about 3" x 5" with 2 protruding mounting ears- it located above the hood release in the drivers footwell. Its awkward to get to but check the seating of the 3 connectors there. The unit unbolts and its possible you need a replacement..?
Alternatively the mirror connections run through the in door connectors. you will have to remove the interior door panel and check the connections at the 2 connectors in the middle of the front part of the door....
Try the mirror with the door in various states of opening since all the connectors go through the hinge pass through conduit and can get damaged there by the constant flexing....

Might be worth popping out the mirror controls from the armrest and checking that the switch has power to it. My '88 had this problem and in the end i had to strip down the controller, clean up the contacts and rebuild (if you do decide to strip the switch be careful not to lose the ball bearings etc and they tend to fly everywhere when you split the casing). Bit fiddly, but worked for me!

thanks for the quick reply guys...
Allan - I"ll go and look at the memory module - I"m hoping it's as easy as that. I have the door panel off as I am putting on sound material (RAAMat). I don't see any connections or connectors in the door, rather just a bundle of wires. TIme to look again I guess.
Bert - I already tried a different switch with no luck. I can do the easy stuff like replacing things
Edit: I see you said the controller. I"m pulling it apart now.

Check the wire harness just inside the door panel before you spend too much time fishing around. See what I found on my '89 a while back.
