You can tell from the avatar where most of my spare time and all of my spare money goes. Since the SV, I've switched to a GSX-R750, which makes the 928 seem pretty tame. The current goal is to be the first 60-year-old to podium at a National. (Last did so at 57.)
Bill Ball might be interested to know that I still have the Arkansas Traveler which was on the cover of the CBXpress for the Jan, '93, issue.

Dave interesting machine - I'm suprised you don't get a better low ratio than 0.734 though?
I have 2 rear wheels the stock one with 8 sprockets gives me 1.1 - 3.73 pretty typical, the other has a 'Mega Gear' as one sprocket but is only a 7 sprocket set. However this gives me a superb 0.65 - 3.12 range great for crawling up real steeps and I could even install a bigger chainring for a lower range - but I'm not sure going lower would even be practical.
You can pretty much pull a wheelie (albeit a slow one) with this gearing...

Too much! I didn't realize the variety of hobbies here.
I see another fellow Norton Commando owner, too. I've got a 1974 850.
Slot cars! Oh my god. Way back in the sixties I used to do that. There was a great slot car place at Playland at the beach in San Francisco.
The bike in the background is my first mountain bike. An '83 Diamondback Ridgerunner.
That GT bike is really interesting. Put a Roloff on that. No, actually that's quite in line with the year of that bike.
I'm sore and have blisters from today's ride. We've got a bridge to build in the forest trail here. It's redwood logs from the hillsides. And I'm doing it alone. Just a block and tackle.
PS- I've had my 928 GT for three years now and finally got to take it on it's first real drive. I've had it out, but not really driven it until now. Several reasons. I lived on long gravel roads being one. I have to say, this is one hell of a car. But it's really not a hobby. The bike is total freedom. No cops. No cars. Silence. On road or off road. It's free. Well the bike was more than a third of the price of my car, but that doesn't count.

Alan, .734 is the underdrive ratio... I actually get .629, with a 28T rear!! How many teeth on that "Mega Gear"?
Gregg, I looked up Roloff because the name didn't ring a bell. A quick Google shows that even the 14-speed is only 526%, and I think they are too wide to mount a cluster. Anyway, I wasn't in the market for a $1200 hub at the time! My total gear spread is 830%, though to be honest I rarely use the lowest possible gear except to clown around, and the highest gear only above 30 mph or so. There have been times though when I've made a grade where everyone else was walking(climbing).
And what do you mean no cops? They were always trying to harass us for not having lights, etc. (when they could catch us)

That's excellent. Talk about nostalgia.
I don't see any Gangreen there. I saw them in a dingy room out at Hunter's Point once.
Somewhere on this forum is a picture of Johnny Rotten at a race track taken by one of the members here.
Very cool.

Sharkskin,
I suddenly realized there are cops. Marin has some 15 mph laws.
And I hid in the bushes one time after descending from Skyline in Los Altos.
However, I'm living in a different world now. I used to live in Sunnyvile and ride to Fremont Older, Stevens Canyon. There's a ton of great riding there.
Try Skaggs Springs up above Kings Mountain road in Woodside. That place is great.

Dave - 40 teeth - its a biggie! big jump from 1st to 2nd though
0.629 now thats more like it...
I assume you'd agree - much lower range is not useful - you can only pedal so fast and go so slow.. Kudos though - thats a great range!
Yes I too find I can climb things most can't... but then there are the guys who can hop up onto rocks balancing alternately on their front then rear wheels... I just give up...

Yeah Gregg, I'm in a different world now too.... have to get back on the bike more though... I miss it. I've crawled all over the Peninsula -- Black Mountain, Los Trancos, La Honda, King's Mountain.... we used to do night rides up Alpine, down Page Mill to Los Trancos, then down the back way into Stevens Canyon. Used to have access to about 3500 acres West of Skegg's point for motorcycle riding and knew that area very well. It's changed a lot though.
Alan, like I said, mostly I've just used the lowest gears for clowning around, though there have been a couple spots where I've used it to pick my way past a train wreck of people who all stop on a hill because the first guy ran out of steam... though I'm a bit out of shape and will probably have more need of the lower gears than I used to.
Back when I was a teenager I used to do all kinds of tricks, jumps, etc. but I drew the line at attempting the tricks that you have to fall on your head 50 times before you can pull it off once in a while -- too much wear and tear for me!

Brian,
Heat was one of the reasons for going in February, the lack of it here, and ample supply there.
If you're interested (or forgot to take photos yourself) here are the "vacation" photos :
