I did a Clarion NZ503 with 7" display. CD/DVD/MP3/Pandora/XM. Full Navigation and phone integration. Has a backup camera. Put a Kicker 8" hideaway powered sub in the back velcroed to the carpet. Sounds just right. Makes long trips with the kiddos easier cause they can watch a movie.

Here's a video to the unit in the car.

Norpower: pics please? I have a spare console, and I have a used pioneer DD nav unit, and a new Pyle DD nav unit. I was going to mod the console by lowering the AC components and do away with the clock and relocate the hazard and cut that area out for more space..it's on my list....would love to know some more details on what you have done....

Thanks

What's the reputation on the current Blaupunkt lineup? The stereo system that came in the 928 S4 has been 'upgraded' to JBL speakers and an Eclipse head unit.

Sounds terrible, lacks bass, and one of the speakers is crackling.

Thinking of doing an overhaul with Blaupunkt everything, including the Toronto headunit.

I like my Toronto, however you can't see jack on the screen when the sun shines into it. It works well and has enough outs to satisfy most stereo needs, including a sub out

I paired it to an old A/D/S PH15.2 with a 642ix crossover network.

I use it to drive JBL components but I am going to switch to all CDT speakers to get more clarity because the JBL's, while powerful and bassy, lack the detail I an looking for.

Plus the CDT speakers are made locally in Buellton CA. Which makes me feel good supporting local industry.

Good to know! I think I'll still go for the Toronto via Amazon and then either source speakers there as well, or go with other speakers.

Does your FM work in North America? They label it as an EU unit and I'm worried the radio might not work here.

Gotta have Blaupunkt for that OEM look. Also, this commercial was hilarious. Sold!

The Toronto works in North America, you just need to select which bands of frequency it needs to detect. Very easy to do following the booklet it comes with.

FWIW I had a Honolulu in the GT. I really liked the way it looked, and how the display colors were customizable. I wasn't at all impressed with the quality however. The Blaupunkt name isn't what it used to be. The control gave up over time and I replaced it with a JVC.
I'd always regarded JVC as sub-par to Blau, but times have changed. Although it doesn't look as at home in my dash as the Blau, the JVC's a better made unit in every way.
My '88 S4 had a Blau head unit in it as well. It too was glitchy.
As far as bass is concerned, IMO there's not a head unit on the market that will provide decent bass to a 928 without a sub.

Should I look elsewhere for a good head unit that's close to OEM? I was also thinking of a CDR220(?) from Porsche.

If you want to go the CDR 220 route, let me know. I have a good used one I pulled out of my 996 that I will let go $75 plus shipping

Looking back at these pages is also got me interested in a vintage Blaupunkt. Tape to AUX can be bought for iPhone connectivity. The calling and CD aren't a deal-breaker.

I'll be searching tonight for a good source.

I checked ebay but nothing decent is coming up. The SQR series looks mighty fine.

If you can find a Nakamichi CD300 or CD400, that's a really nice head unit that looks at home in our cars.

I went with the Pioneer DEH-X9600BHS in both our 88 & 89.

The design of the head unit matches the interior really good due to the layout, including the large single button on the left that is about the same size as the other control ***** in the car.

The unit comes with all features including CD, MP3, blue tooth audio, and hands free wireless. Also has 2 or 3 USB ports you can use to leverage apple or android devices. I use an old Ipod that holds 1,000+ songs. The handsfree mic is positioned near the center gauges and works very well for calls.

For the sub I went with an enclosed 10" Kenwood P-XW1000B and a Kicker DXA500.1 Amplifier. The sub fits perfect in the cargo area and can be moved to different positions if desired. Never had an issue with loading luggage, etc..
