AC hose rebuilding, where to send? Flushing system proc?
The local folks can't rebuild my 2 low pressure side AC hoses on my 88. They also told me they would normally cut the hose at the crimp ferrule. They would then attach the new hose and crimp it on. Is this normal? One of the lines has a bend just after the ferrule. They said the hoses look ok, no soft spots but they are 18 years old.
At this point I buy new ones $, or send them out to get done, recommendations on shops used?
I will also call 928 Inter and Spec. , and Griffiths to get a cost on new hoses.
I plan on rebuilding the compressor while it's out.
I have a new receiver dryer, and a expansion valve for the front AC, should I change the rear expansion valve also?
What is the best way to DIY flush the system without expensive equipment?
Thank you,
Glenn

I had a local AC shop rebuild a hose for me -- they had no problem replacing just the rubber part without molesting the metal part. You may have to shop around till you find someone who can do the same for you.
I chickened out on the AC flush job and paid to have it done.

Hey Glenn,
If you take your hoses to a local shop, don't tell them it's for a Porsche - makes them wide-eyed and they start to pump their hips. I think you can also send them out (many shops in FL and AZ).
From what I read flushing the system correctly isn't a DIY job.
I have a vacuum pump if needed w/ gauges, o-rings, fittings, etc.

I had my hoses rebuilt locally, and there was a small issue getting hose that fitted the metric steel tubing, but it wasnt a biggie. Note that going off R12 to R??? will mean going to 'barrier' hose (teflon lined?) that is more resistant to permeation than the old hose, as the latest ac gas is more likely to penetrate normal hose.

mine local also. and cheap, less than $20 a hose. in fact the one time he did three at the same time and charged me $30.00 for all three on a sunday when he was closed. Mine were actually AT trans lines. You do not have to have a car guy do it. the guy i use builds hydrolic hoses for big machinery. and he loves Porsches, I think that helps
