When the side tanks start leaking as mine is doing, does the leak just continue to get worse over time, or can it just blow the seal while driving and dump the coolant?

Mine only leaked at very high temp and speed, and I was not able to locate the source. It's best to take the radiator out (very easy to do) and to a radiator shop and have it pressure tested for free. My local dad and son radiator shop showed me the leak spritzing under pressure. It was an invisible crack near the upper inlet on the passenger side. They had the equipment to replace the Behr sidetanks but were unable to source our sidetank. That's fine, since our 928 vendors have them. I ordered the sidetank and seal and had the shop install it. If you are handly and have some huge clamps, it is POSSIBLE to do this yourself. It requires careful opening of the tabs, compression of the tank and gasket with clamps, and rebending of the tabs. The shop should have the proper jigs and tools to do this properly. Just ask them if they repair Behr radiators with plastic sidetanks.

Hey Bill,
Greg did this for me a few years ago and said some of the tabs were missing or broke and he didn't know how long the repair would last. It lasted longer than I thought it would. I also remeber there being another issue with the lower tubes. I think its probably time to just pony up and get the 928 intl. one. I would just like to wait a bit longer to gather the finances but want to drive in the mean time, thus the question. Thanks.

Keep an eye on it. If you notice that it gets worst fast then replace it as soon as possible, otherwise do it when fniancing allowes it.
