Mark, have you ever disassembled cases that were assembled with 518? I hear it's a bear!

yes, this was the engine that locked up when the "old" rings dug in to the cylinder walls before it even fired over!! it wasnt bad at all. just a puddy knife and some scotch bright and a razor blade to clean it all off. however, now i KNOW, why the WSM says install the oil pump and bolt half it in, and the attach the two halves, then torque the halves and then remove the oil pump. if you leave the oil pump in and not pull it out after assembly, the redline glues the oil pump to the block. i fouind out the hard way, when the oil pump wouldnt turn. after pulling it, i was able to scrape all the locktite off and it is fine now, but close call!

WTF??? Nobody is carrying Loctite products any more.... It's all Permatex!

I wanted to try 518, and I don't see a Permatex equivalent. Any ideas of the Permatex 518 equivalent?

I have Locktite 574 as recomended in the WSM. It's expensive but worth it. I cross referenced the chemicals on the MSDS sheets with permatex and it's not the same.
