Ok so heres the rundown, me: a 1986.5 with 5spd, rmb and chips. Them (yes theres 3) a 82 non turbo with some exhaust work, a 87 na totally stock and a 85 na stock. Were gonna do a couple of fun runs this spring on some safe backroads and a little strip spot for some straights. So whats the odds? they are all non turbo which is good. I have never been in a 911 so I dont know what to expect.
Shall be fun!

You will resoundly trounce them in a straight line. If you have replaced your suspension in the last decade (as many 928 people have not), then you will also be quite competitive in the turns.

If you wish to know where your car falls in the Porsche pecking order simply go to the P O C califonia website and look at the rules for car classification. It will for example tell you that a USA 1980 928 runs against a normally aspirated late 944 . In any class where there is a 911 listed it typically will outhandle the 928 and maybe out drag it as well. Weight is the enemy as it impacts braking cornering as well as acceleration. Quite frankly on public highways he who is willing to take the most risks will "win". If you want an unfair advantage buy a set of Kuhmo Victor racer tires heat cycled and shaved that will make a HUGE difference in what the car is capable of doing.

Take out the spare. Heck, take out the passenger seat.

Spend the $150.00 and go to the track.. you can then focus on driving and not the cops or the other distractions that public streets have to offer..
Also become good friends with Jim and he'll give you a set of Kuhmo Victor racers for your B-Day.

My '87 928 would outrun my '89 Carrera (both 5 sp) under almost all circumstances. In the hands of a better driver, maybe that wouldn't be the case. The 928 was and is an easy car to drive fast. The 911 requires more finesse.

I have owned 4 911's 2 of which were very good running 3.0's. One was modded quite a bit, but none I've owned or driven (except the 3.6 and up) could out accelerate my stock at the time 83 euro or 87 s4, both 5 spds. Not by a long shot. They claim 6.5 to 7.3 0-60 depending who tested, but I could'nt get it out of any of mine. 3rd gear in those cars is awsome though!

Hi ![Smilie](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
For what its worth....my 928 with Nitrous running...can out drag a GT3 right up and past 150 mph...on the straight only.....the modern electronics of almost any modern 911...will hammer any 928 on the bendy stuff...unfortunately...
All the best Brett

They'll eat your lunch in tight corners- you'll walk away in the straights. As mentioned- the sharks are quite hefty in comparison to the go-cart like 911's.I often run with my Buddy in his Targa.

Well I can tell you one trick that will help against a 911...
DONT let them get a run up on you...say they are going to try and out drag you from 100 mph.....make them come level with you...or pull out in front of them lol.....so they HAVE to slow to YOUR speed.....then drag away.....you will make them lose all their torque.....and they only have 6 cylinders....so you will then out accelerate them easily...
All the best Brett
