Some of you may remember my posts years ago about this non-running euro S project car I bought non-running about 7 years ago. I've done some work on it here and there, but never seem to be able to focus on it long enough to get it running. I'd fix one thing and another would stop working.
Well, I finally admitted to myself I would never have the time needed to get it running so I trailered it to Koby Motors a couple of weeks ago. The immediate problem was no spark and Achilles found that the coil was bad. With spark, the engine would run for a second or two from the gas from the cold start injector, but the other injectors, all new, were not getting gas. It looked as though a new fuel distributor was needed (I bought the current one used from 918 intl about 5 years ago, but it appearantly sat with gas in it too long). I wasn't ready to put that kind of cash into the the car, so I picked it up and brought it home, thinking I would sell it as is.
When I went to fire it up, so my 8 year old son, who has watched this car sit in the garage nearly all his life, could hear it run for a second or two, it started, and kept running!!!!! We were shocked. Something must have losened up in the fuel distributor. It's running rough but will rev up some.
I put some fresh gas with BG K44 treatment in it last night, and will run it each day to try to get the fuel distributor cleaned out more.
The clutch has felt normal all these years, but before I took it to the shop, I pressed it in and it went all the way to the floor. The shop said it was the master cylinder, not the slave, so I'll probably try the "through the firewall" rebuild.
Overall I think this car has potential. There are a few electric gremlins that need to be worked out, but the engine doesn't have any oil leaks, and the leather dash isn't even cracked, and no sunroof. Hopefully now that it's running I find the motivation needed to get it drivable. After that it will probably be for sale. I really liked having more space in my garage while it was at the shop.
Video here of the car firing up at Koby Motors. (it's hard to hear the deep rumble in the video, but it sounded SWEET!!!)

Any advice is welcome.

If a car starts, it has potential. Keep working it! maybe somebody can loan you a fuel distributor... the other thing I'd suggest is, take the fuel distributor off the car, and spray the hell out of it with carb cleaner.
Best of luck...

Chuck,
I'm gonna try to get as much done as possible before the Houston humity and heat kicks in. At times like these I wish I was closer to the DFW group of owners. I'll definately be hitting you guys up for advice.

Don,
Try pulling all of the fittings off the distributor (including the pressure regulator) and WUR then spraying each orifice with throttlebody cleaner. This worked on my 931 after 5 years of sitting. Also, replace the fuel filter as it could be partially plugged and causing your problem.
BTW my 931 required an initial adjustment of the A/F mixture. As the cleaner worked (about 4 weeks) periodic adjustments were required to keep it running properly.

Dennis,
I found some time to work on the euro and found what I think is a clue to my problem. I removed the fuel lines and fittings from the top of the fuel dist and all eight leaked fuel when I broke them lose. I'm thinking that's good, none are completely clogged. Next I slowly pushed the air meter plate down and noticed that some of the holes swelled with fuel and some did not. If facing the FD from the front of the car, the 2 on left side, and the 2 on the right side didn't swell.
If I understand the way it works, they should all be flowing equally. I tried to capture it on video but it's sortof hard to see. I sucked the gas out of the ones that didn't swell and sprayed carb cleaner into the holes.

I didn't see the YouTube video although the link did lead to the best sheep video EvAr! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3_pNNYvPC1U
Congratulation! I just tried revived a CIS engine from an 8 year nap but it just doesn't run well and I've given up.
It would be encouraging if you get it running well without rebuilding the fuel distributor and WUR, please keep us posted

Thanks Mike, but this was an old thread from 4/2007 that Greg replied to, so it came to the top. He may have meant to reply to my For Sale thread. I'm not currently working on it.

Don,
Since you have it running (albeit rough) it may just take some fine tuning of the A/F mixture. That was exactly the same thing that happened on my 931. Four tanks of gas with cleaner and four A/F adjustments in a month straightened it out.
