Its a car that gives me considerable pleasure especially when you consider the starting point for such a super car.

An investment in my sanity perhaps but not $$$ as well as folks like the 'Listers. Couldn't handle the snobbery of the new P, F or L clubs................dare I say the 928 folks seem more real.

Lots of other larger money pits out there............try going racing.

It's chews up time and swallows gulps of money when I allow it to do so. In the big scheme of things, the dollar cost of the car is down in the noise someplace. If it wasn't the 928, it would be someting with a slower clock and a deeper apetite, I suspect. Or a Civic (gad!)

I'm with Brett A. Also, I've been relatively lucky in the repair cost department. So, although it's certainly not an investment, it has cost me WAY less than any other performance car would have.

I voted toy/hooby, but it was right there even with, probably not much different than other cars...if compared to new cars and counting depreciation, versus shark maintenance, no worse, but compared to my 993, not even close, they don't depreciate much and maintenance costs are pretty low.

In the end, I don't see "investment", but I love cars, and I'd rather spend my "hobby dollars" on something this fun and I can't think of another car that looks better/ cooler and I like the V-8 thing as well.

Not a money pit to me as I do all of the work myself.
Sure was a money pit to the 2 previous owners though.
Collectively they chucked out about 50,000 clams in repairs until I bought the car in 2000.
The last owner chucked almost 18 grand in repairs and only kept the car for a year and a half!!
About 80% of all repairs went to labor.

Whenever I walk out of work all beat up and get back to my car and fire it up, I think: "What was work except a path to a supercharger"?

And it IS a heluva lot cheaper than anything modern with the same Presence.

All hobby for me! Fell in love with the 928 first time I saw it I felt it was a car that I would really enjoy and could work on in my spare time. Love to do all the work myself and try to figure out all the quirks of this fine ride

If I had the 928 written off tomorrow, I would get much more from the insurance co. than I have "invested" in it. So for me it's like a money investment that has a very very low return rate. But I never bought is as such. It's a hobby for me.......a hobby to go as fast as you can for as little money as possible!

An average auto experience is purchase car for 30K, drive for 4 years and 75,000 miles, trade for next car and get $6500 trade in. The way I see it, I can drive a 928 for four years, spend $12,000 keeping it pristine, sell it for $5,000 less than I paid for it and my "investment" returned 6k or 7k that a "normal" car would not have. To buy, keep and drive a 928 you're not going to "make" money, but with any luck at all, as a DIY'er, you should end up spending less and enjoying it a hell of a lot more than a Buick.
