Default How to take off console inserts?

I need to take off my console inserts and I am going to replace them with inserts from a newer model. I've read descriptions on how to remove the newer style inserts, but I'm not sure how to remove the older style inserts. On the newer models the inserts are two separate pieces, but on mine it is all one piece. What are the steps I need to take to remove this without breaking it?

Thanks

Remove the center vent first (carefully it is held in place with 4 prongs on the corners) From your pics you need to remove stereo also. Then from top pull trim off, package, and mail to me (I need one if you don't) especially if not cut up around stereo.

Sorry, I already sold them to Andrew Olson. You might want to get in touch with Dozman about some more inserts. I bought my newer model ones from him. Is there any special way to pull off the trim?

I have never done this on an early car. On the later cars the lower console trim piece comes out easiest, if you use a putty knife and carefully put it in between the trim piece and the console right in front of the console switches. Then lift it up carefully, making sure not to break it.

Before you off your trim piece, I would test fit a newer style as they are wider. Because of the warpage experienced on the older cars, Porsche redisigned the fit and made the newer trim wider and designed a recess in the newer console. This allows for the trim piece to slip in and expand into the recess. I think if you try doing this conversion, you're warping issue will be worse as you will have a trim piece that is too compressed.

I don't know this for sure, just giving you fair warning to test first.

I knew it was easier on the newer models. I remember reading a tutorial on somebody's site on how to upgrade to the newer style analog clock. But because the old style is all one piece I'm not sure how to remove it carefully. Can somebody describe how to remove the vents more clearly?

With a small hook or 'L' shaped pick get behind one of the corners and pull slightly (not all the way though) do this on all 4 corners until it is out. You want to try to remove it evenly. Then when that is off use the same pick and pull one side of trim up. It will be tight, but will come out. Once one side is out do the other, then keep working your way down to clock, ashtray, and shifter bezel. I believe Keith is correct with fit of newer style, check before you send yours off.
