Hi All!
I was never entirely happy with other solutions I've seen proposed. I preferred to keep the original straps for their non-obtrusive, stock look, but didn't want to pay whats seems like big $$$ for new ones (like who does?). How to take up the slack and get a tighter fit though, without cutting, other fasteners, etc.
I came across some some foam insulating tape in the garage that I had left over. It was 3/8" thick by 3/4" wide closed cell neoprene with an adhesive back. I measured up 4 lenghts of about 7 1/4" to attach to the top half of the filter box under each strap. It seems to have worked, taking up the slack and making for a very snug fit. Best of all, I think it blends well with the box and original straps.
I'm not too sure how these pics turned out and posting them is not something I have much experience with, so please bear with me if this doesn't work as intended.

Nice but keep an eye on it casue that foam is not rated for high heat and it might age very fast.

I did something very simmilar, instead of the foam tape I used several layers of "magic wrap". It looks like an electrical tape but its made of raw rubber or something and can strech and stick really well.

Good Idea. I used another method for mine. Don't think my fix will work on your air box. Unless the little tabs are hidden under the strap.

The four rubber straps on my air box are useless. They are intact, but there is no life left in them and they are stretched out. The solution for me was to go to the local Napa and buy a bag of tire chain tensioners. Cost $4.50. Took about ten minutes to install. Just take off the hooks and put on the air box. The fit is nice and tight. Hope this helps someone out.

i like the "chain" straps!! nice idea!!

i added a bead of silicon on both sides of the filter. let is partially dry and then compress it with the straps on the car. it makes a form fitting seal that also takes up the slack of the old straps.
this also solves the leaking air box issue that most all 928s have under WOT.

Some great ideas, may have to try one of these this spring.

I've noted very small hairline cracks in the rubber of my straps, anyone else note this? If yes has the extra stretching by adding material underneath the straps caused breakage?

I like your solution and was going to use it, but I didn't have those lugs on my air box!

I don't have the hairline cracks on my straps (yet!), but I would expect my solution will add more strain to the straps and make the cracks worse over time.

I did the same thing but back to front w/ 7/16" x 1" closed cell adhesive backed. Fits exactly between the small "rails" on top of the airbox. Really snugs up the straps ,and squeezes the filter between top & bottom. Good suggestion!

My straps are fine, but have audible air box leak at WOT.
Excellent tip. Will also help when my straps loosen.

no problem. i have messed with the air box for years and years. i actually was able to get a pressure reading difference of near 1/2 " Hg by the old method and the sealed method. proved that there was some major leaking under WOT .not that its a huge diff, but its something.
