Devek Aluminium Rad LEAK!!!
I have two customer cars here in DFW with fairly new Devek rads.
New as in a couple of years old at the most.
The one that I looked at yesterday was leaking from the bottom front about 4" in from the passenger side.
As the condenser protects that part of the rad I cannot see "FOD" being the cause.
Are they repairable?
Choices are new Aluminium from 928Int. Jury is still out on life expectancy though the source is 110% trusted.
New Behr rad at $1000.
Used with the obvious pitfalls.
Anybody have any better solutions, ideas, fixs.
Thanks,
Roger

Rog,
Jim was talking about who to rebuild them, and I think when mine gets bad enough I'm going to go with his suggestions. One would think that for the $$ that these alum ones go for, that the quality would be much better. Most of the stock ones lasted a very long time and I would assume that these would last much longer. Could it be that there is a common fault among these rads that has been improved recently?
Kinda sucks.

My radiator lwas leaking when I first bought the car and it was replaced with a 'pirate' one made up by a local shop. It's copper, but visually identical to the original (except for the decals which were thrown away with the old one!) It runs a little cooler than the original and has given me no trouble whatsoever in 7 years. Cheap too. You might have such a place near you. There are heaps of them here.

Roger, I'm sure a Radiator shop would be able to repair these....that should be one of the advantages of these. Or, a quality welding shop, but they prolly wouldn't be able to test like a rad shop could.
