Question Tranny pan gasket

When replacing the transmission pan gasket, do you have to "activate" it the same way you would when installing a new oil filter?

I did, if you mean a film of tranny fluid rubbed along it. Habit, I guess.

If you are a 4 speed , check out some posts by 'nails' re a gasket change by MB that Porsche did NOT pick up. Old style gasket was prone to fail around the middle bolt on the side.

Default Tranny pan gasket

I hope that this attachment will help.

I usually fit gasket dry, so that the ridges hold on the sealing surface. Do not over torque the pan set bolt.

Yes, that all helps. Thank you. I ordered a new gasket from 928 Intl, hope it's the good one. I'll let you know how it goes.

Is the updated gasket 126 271 1180 a Porsche part # or is this Mercedes. I looked on 928 Int web site and got no results with that #.

Its a MB number, however, in the PET it is also designated by this MB number. The part number is also stamped onto the pan gasket.

I have found that purchasing the pan gaslet from MB or European Part Suppliers is cosiderably cheaper that from an OPC. I carry a spare gasket in my garage.
