I don't post in any other group except 928. have not been here even three years yet, and that may make me a newbie. But, I have worked on cars in general since the early-70s, and not every questions/answer is 928 specific(but most are).

the polishing question is a good example. AL polishing is something I am intimately familiar with, having done an entire plane, dune buggy wheels, Lycoming intake, etc. There is no fast or easy way. Power tools help but it's not a cure-all.

As for posting anonymously, I have, and will continue. Although this may make some uncomfortable, there are very good reasons for it. Anyone who wants to know me personally, will have to come visit, or agree to do business with me privately. I regret to still be labeled a 'user', as it makes me sound like a drug flunkie.

I hope on balance, I've been somewhat of a benefit to the group, and I can surely say that the group has been of great benefit to me. sometimes we all need to sift through a bit of chaff to get some kernels of value. Kinda like this post, in this thread on this forum(being chaff, of course).

I think the forum has something of the same character as the 928, exceptional performance combined with a certain cranky quality. Sometimes new members may need a lot of work. Sometimes old ones need to be parted out. Still a fun ride.

And sometimes somebody hacks in a part that just doesn't fit.

Sorry Dang. Your analogy.

Heinrich, thanks for the encouragement.

Just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean people aren't really out to get me .

Ron_h,
We disagreed on a topic once, but I do get you, and I enjoyed reading your initial and follow-up posts here. That's good stuff.

I troll throuh the 928 forum occasionally having some background with 928's. However, I'm not here that frequently and half the posts are danglerb talking about completely worthless stuff that most people outgrew their sophomore year in HS. Heck he might only be a sophomore in HS and that would explain A LOT. The other half is broken down into two parts. The first are posts that are informative, the other patr are posts that are one line replies but still take up an entire page. You 928 people have the biggest damn signatures outside of Honda-tech. But I'd much rather see those than posts that dilute the knowledge by postwhoring 10 new topics a day.

Gas bag, "smartest guy in the room" Noobs are a pain in the cranium........ However they are not as bad as old buggers who post their opinions about stuff they know nothing about........

One I recall specifically? "YMMV", 'member him?

FWIW, I have 200,000 miles on my cast hole rotors, and they STILL DO NOT HAVE CRACKS!!!!!!

Look up GAS BAG in the thesaurus, there is a recent color picture of that guy there.

I've read...

I believe...
So and so has said that...
Here is a link where that is covered...

If there is something that I know for a fact because I have done it, or confirmed it myself, then I feel comfortable saying something more directly as fact.

Lastly, I'm always suspicious of newbies that post a lot, more often then not they don't know what they are talking about and are just parroting what they have read, but not actually done themselves. And occaisionally you get the attention ***** that just cannot resist posting. -Ed
I've been at this 928 thing for almost 12 years. I still don't know enough to dispense any REAL advice.

I can be outdone be a 2 hour old newbie.

Well I have less than 200 posts and just over 18 months of ownership. I guess that makes me a newbie. I know I have given out advice before - especially after the TB/WP I did on my 84. I think in one case I answered for Bill B.

The enthusiasm of being able to use the information a person gets from this forum and then perform the work and hear the roar of the engine after all is done - really does something to newbies (at least it did for me). You get the feeling you have really accomplished something as well as saved thousands of dollars. Due to this we immediately want to share that enthusiasm with others and begin sharing our information with the forum.

If sharing that enthusiasm and information has in some way offended others - I humbly apologize.
