Question on behalf of my better half (don't laugh!) What does PU stand for when discussing fenders / bumpers. To be honest i have no idea myself, but i'm sure someone can answer her question

polyurethane is correct.

AKA manmade, synthetic, textile, and many other names they have come up with instead of saying plastic.

It's not that common of an acronym, is it?

I mean, it's not even an acronym. Polyurethane is one word.

PU is used in the chemical bisness as a shorthand for polyurethane, as PE is polyethylene, and PTP for polyterphthalate etc. Probably because Chemical Engineers can't spell very well.
