Mystery Porsche 928 Wheel????
I just reviewed all the wheels I could find on Rennlist and came to two conclusions:
1) Garth S has the most beatiful stock wheels ever made for the 928 (shown first below)
2) I liked them so much I used the BUY IT NOW on ebay to purchase a similar set.....only they're not the same!! And I cannot identify them. They're not delivered yet but the seller tells me that they are as follows:
16"x 7 (at least 2 are)
rim width 7J
offset: 65
Porsche Number: 928 836 102 105
Notice that the holes are shaped differently than Garths with more of a pronounced V. Also, I've been unable to find the supplied Porsche wheel number anywhere.
Did I buy a nice set of wheels or lemons? Anyone know what Porsche these orginally came on?
Thanks and remember that Garth's wheel shows first. It's the PERFECT ONE, in every way. Then comes mine, the dirty one.
I know that the Club Sport wheel & the Design 90 are different....one forged and one cast. Are these those? If so, which is which?

My first thought was that these could be machined flat dish rims. Then I realized that you can't see through the black areas. So I conclude they are flat dish rims with either
- black decals (Jager offered these for a while)
- black painted areas
to mimic the ClubSport design.

Your first pic, like Garth's avatar is a CS. At first sight there's not much external difference between the CS and D90 wheels, especially the front ones though the rear D90 has a visible offset. D90s also have a slightly different detail moulding around rhe rim. CS wheels are really hard to find but you might be almost as happy with D90s which are plentiful. 'Fraid yours are lemons.

Thanks Harv! )
I too am unsure about the wheel shown. I [I]think[I] I can see the glint from the back face - which would confirm that the cut outs are real; however, their shape and a slight mismatch in the 5 o'clock area raises the possibility that these were aftermarket cuts to a standard 7 flat dish. I did a quick PET6 look on the p/n, but came up dry.
There were two generations of the 7 ET65 forged flats, the early ones [B]do not[B] have the reinforcing ribs on the rear face .... it is these ribs which guide the curvature of the CS cutouts. Their absence may help explain themore pointed apex of the cuts. Regardless, if your '88 has the forged flats, you can easily confirm their presence to help clarify my rambling. The 7" 'CS' was a 944 fit; however, the 928 p/n needs to be resolved.
What is the spec on the rears as you know, the CS are 8 & 9, both of ET60 - the one pictured is the 8" front.

I agree the part number is confusing. Look like the CS wheels but part number is wrong.
maybe this might help For picture reference. http://www.944racing.de/reload.php?u...ngewichte.html

I might know where a set of Club Sports could be found for a 928. I know the CS for the 944's are quite plentiful.

Hughett,
I've got an extra set of the Club Sports that you intended to purchase in the first place. They're 8's and 9's, just like Garths. And the Club Sports on the 944, as Cobalt mentioned, are NOT the same as the 928 Club Sports. The 944 C.S.'s are 7's and 9's. You want the extremely rare 8's and 9's which give you the outstanding front cornering of 8's on the front. In fact, many 944 Club Sport owners go searching for the elusive 8's as well. Very, very tough find!
Mine are being polished right now and will be in "as new" condition upon completion in two weeks (I just took them in yesterday and they said there's a two week turnaround at the most). Would you be interested in these if you plan on reselling the wrong one's you unfortunately purchased?
Let me know, okay?
You can e-mail me at partysover@sbcglobal.net if your interested. I rarely check my Rennlist PM's.

Anthony - thanks for the ref
Harv - above are the p/n's lifter from this ref: as we said, a 7" CS was made for the Turbo S: If you were sold these as 928 CS wheels, you have grounds for a refund IMO based on misrepresentation ... be it innocent or otherwise.

Hello All,
We had a discussion about these wheels lat month. Those are regular flat wheels with a Jager sticker kit placed on the face of the wheel.
