Default DFW'ers trip to Grand Prix of Houston?

http://www.grandprixofhouston.com/

What do you N. Texas guys/gal think about a drive down to this event? I went last year, and it was awesome. The main race is the Champ Car event on Sunday 4/22, which will be cool, but the main draw for me personally is the American Le Mans Series Race on Saturday 4/21. This will have the prototype cars: Porsche RS Spyder, Audi R10, etc as well as a bunch of 911's, A-M DBRS9's, Corvettes, Ferraris, etc. With a pit pass, we'd have run of the whole pit to oooh and ahhhh.

I parked in the Porsche Club Corral last year, and probably will this year. I've got a room reserved at the nearby Hilton Houston Plaza/Medical Center for Saturday nite, but haven't bought my ticket yet. You can buy tix by the day, or for all three. There's a feeder Formula race on Friday. I'm planning on an early trip down Saturday morning, which allows for early afternoon arrival, and a few hours of meandering around before the start of the race @ 5:00pm. The race length is 2 hours, 45 minutes.

I haven't decided on whether I'd stay for the Champ race on Sunday, or drive back that morning.

Kim's working the race, and we could get hurt or something to make her day rough and miss the race....

Ed,
I am interested in going - need a shotgun?
I may be interested in going down on Friday as Paul Rodgers is my all time fav singer.

Rog: That would be fun, I saw him back in the 70's in the Bad Co days. One of my earlier record collections had Free in it too.

Where is Porsche Club Corral Located? And how do you get into it? I will be there, I didnt take the shark last year for fear of the general parking lots.

Porsche, Ferrari, Corvette all have corrals at this race. Go to the IMSA website, and you can buy ticket for parking there. Can't remember, but is may have been something like $25 for a three day parking pass. It is in a great spot, right at one of the walk-over bridges. It may be a little early to buy yet.

Default Lone Star Grand Prix, Reliant Park, April 20-22nd...

Hey Ed...

This was started under a different thread, but happy you 'brought it up again'...

https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...ferrerid=48316

In an attempt to 'share what I know':

The IMSA Car Corrals WERE located off #610, then Kirby:

PLEASE NOTE: This is a map from last year's event -- the Car Corrals were by Circuit turns #7 and #8 -- but this is still subject to change, as the course might be layed out or numbered differently this year...

For general admission tickets and parking, go to the event site:

http://www.grandprixofhouston.com/

For the Porscheplatz venue tickets... check back with the IMSA site:

http://www.imsaracing.net, then go to Car Corrals link. Details still being finalized for this upcoming season...

Hotels, I believe can be accessed through event site, (or maybe fellow Renn-ers in the area??)

I will be down there earlier in the week, so I will miss the joint drive down... but look forward to meeting up with those who can attend. Perhaps a posting of a Renn-Get-Together, closer to the event!

What's next, ahh, yes -- I will NOT be staying in / near any medical center... NOR will I be posting that info!

As for my 'working', well, yes, but I will be 'wearing a different hat', so to speak, and not for profit, but -- heck, Ed, I believe in the barter system -- 'your WHAT hurts?'

Yes, it was a fun time, indeed, last year, and shows every indication of surpassing that this year!

Will update as info becomes available...

Just a quick bump and some more info, this is going to be a great event:

Roger and I are planning to go down Friday afternoon, and attend the Paul Rodgers concert Friday night. This give us all day Saturday, so maybe a coffee with the Houston group on Saturday am, lunch, roam around the pits Saturday afternoon and then the ALMS race from 5:00-7:45pm. After that, party @ the pool? Head home Sunday morning (the Champ Car race is that day-you can stay if you wish...)

I changed reservations to:

Hampton Inn/Houston Medical Center & Reliant Park...it's real close

Hi Ed, Sorry for the off-topic diversion, but was that you I saw driving a white 928S4 southbound on I35E in Lewisville this morning a little before 9 am? I wasn't in my P-car, so you wouldn't have noticed me.

I'll be there with my son. Had a blast last year. My son's favorite part was the corals where all the exotics parked. It would be really cool to have a long line of 928's there.
