Window seals (replacing lower window seals - RV)
I am getting ready to install new outside lower window seals. Two questions;
1. Is it easier and/or required to remove the window from the door to get to the bottom lip the seal holds on to?
2. would I hook onto the bottom lip first and pull to the top groove, or the other way around?
Thank you for your time.

Did you buy the seals? I think i priced them before and they are like $120 each. If you absolutely need them then you need them but they arent cheap.
As for the install, i think you can do it with the window down. If i remember the window pulls away from the seal as its lowered, so even lowered slightly you should have the space to replace them.

Early and late seals are different...the metal channel is apparently a different shape. Mine is 83 same as yours, and I found it relatively easy, with help from Dan the Pod Guy. First important part is LUBE the channel - soapy water is fine. Have the glass right down. Start with front of the rubber, one lip of the rubber, I think into the bottom groove first, and roll the top lip into place with a screwdriver handle held at 45degrees to horizontal, pointing upwards, AND 45degrees INWARDS through the window. Once you have some length with both lips engaged in the groove, slide the rubber right up to the front end (which is why it needs lubricant) , and then work backwards along the door. As long as the channel is wet you can correct position, and snip off excess when you know where it is. I found one door easier to do than the other, related to being right handed....Easier (and cheaper!) than doing the top channel seal too!

Just as JP said,
When I did all my seals on the 79, I did not read any posts. If I had known I had to lube the outer seal, my friggin fingers and nails would not have hurt like a **** for a week!!!
Good luck with the project!!

Here ia a like to the procedure with pictures.

Myself I found using lubrication to be a hinderance rather than a help. When first feeding the gasket into the grove the lubrication tended to pop it back out. With the gasket dry it seemed to stay in place better. The worst part is I kept slipping with the handle and hitting the car. Since the screw driver handle is plastic it did no damage, but protecting the paint might be a good idea.
I think it took about a half hour for the first one and about 10 minutes a gasket after I had the technique down.
Good luck
