X (pipe) marks the (G) Spot!

What seems odd is how well the X works, and how long merge pipes and how to make them have been around without them being a standard factory arrangement. Do they have any down side beyond cost?

Not sure how happy you're going to be by refitting the rear muffler. I guess this may be a temp fix for you, but you may want to consider going with a Borla or some other sport muffler for the rear....OR, leave the RMB( because nothing replaces that kind of exhaust note) and fit a couple of sport mufflers in place of the resonators. The latter will give you the sound you are looking for I am sure.

I plan some sport type mufflers also, but not until I do a 2-1/2" cat back system. As our systems stand now we have the X but it is restricted by the reduction down to less than 2-1/4" for the remainder of the system.

Ed, Rog should have the S4 resonators on that '87.

I hope there's a decent gain.
I love and hate these cars.
BUT-for the price relative to gain let's hope you can pass on something significant and worthy for the money spent.
There's a lot of competition out there.
good news-perhaps.

Ed,
By capping the air tube, wouldn't that put too much strain on the air pump? Where will all that air go when the line is capped?

Airpump is offline (no belt), but there is still vacuum in the system. I'm pretty sure my old O2 got buggered up.
The low end on this car is definitely stronger. When I leave a stoplight or stop sign with the same heavey foot I used to have, the tires break loose a bit. It also feels like it breathes better thru the R's til redline.

Oh well, hope the O2 does it. You must have a pretty good assometer to detect the change in accel from just an exhaust mod.

Isn't an X pipe supposed to be about the same as a H pipe at lower rpm with the differences being at higher rpm the H stops helping much and the X doesn't?
