Makes sense if it's all cars as when I think about it, that's the way I set up the autox cars I run. Miata has more in front, MR2 2-3 psi more in back. The way Porsche originally specified the 928 seems to be an exception to that rule.

Is Porsche recommending a high cold tire pressure keeping in mind the speed potential of our cars?

Thats the way we did it when I raced........its based on percentage of increase cold vs hot. Starting with a lower cold pressure will result in a higher percentage increase at a high rate of speed.

Shane......this is the wrong way to go. Start with a higher cold pressure for the higher speed.

So what is recommeded F/R tire PSI's for Boxsters and Caymans?

I'd like to see a pic if anyone is still running Pirelli P7's. Didn't Porsche spec those back in the late 70's early 80's.
I likeee 'em Silica laced rubber. Sticks nice and good.

Ernest (NYC) Got nomex everything except Helmet/balaclava.

Yummmm!
Sweet Greek Treats. Me like.

Running oversized balloney 245/275 on 8" and 9" rims using tires as rim protectors.
It was such a difference coming from 245 to 275 rear tires.
Mid 30's pressure.
Wonder how thumpey the car will be at 40psi and NYC pave.

Ernest (NYC) Need to git me a baklava hat.

To add to the 'why a higher pressure in the back than front' discussion:

This is very interesting. I've always inflated my tires (original 16") to the specs on the door. 22,000 miles and even wear all the way around.

Guys, Don't forget that a higher pressure also gives a lower rolling resistance.
My late but not forgotten 86 Audi 5000 Turbo Quattro come with special Dunlop D8's
with an recommended inflation of 44psi to get that last bit of speed and milage. Mac

I've been through 3 sets of rears in 40k kms and I watch the pressures religiously. Michelin extra sticky and soft.

Mine are Pirellis P7000. They're kind of noisey but they're tough tires. I'm rough with them in the turns but they just don't wear out.
