this is on my 83' 928 w/ 84 euro motor.
We installed the new clutch, tranny, rebuilt the torque tube and everything was perfect. not problem at a stand still going into 1st. I drive 40 miles back from the shop and get into some traffic and can't get it into 1st w/o forcing it. So I go into second then flip it down to 1st. My question is when you install a new clutch is there a standard adjustment period.... where the discs in the clutch are aligning themselves?
great to be on the road agin... few more bugs left.....

do you have a twin disc setup ? Did you adjust the fingers on the intermediate plate ? if not then you may be experiencing clutch drag IE there is still enough friction on one of the discs to keep the trans loaded so it will be difficult to engage a gear when the is car stopped. You might also try bleeding the slave cylinder as there might be air in the system and thus the slave is not moving far enough to disengage the clutch

As Heinrich said... we've been messing with it for many months (obviously odd weekends). We started witht he 928developments stage 2 then the stage 3, then gave up on that and tried to get a refund (hahahha I'm not holding mybreath on this one) . Finally went back to OEM. We got it completely dialed in was perfect driving around the shop and the first 5 miles of traffic. got on the highway drove the car 40mile north, get off the highway and start experiencing the issue going into 1st. Runs fine if I start in second then quickly pull down into 1st..... but still curious what could have shifted around.
funnier part is I get home.trun the key to turn off the car and remove the key. Car is still running.
Open the door, car stops. key has been working fine since that one time. The car might be cursed but I still love it.

I love troubleshooting from the hip when I am not sure I am remember correctly.
Isn't the ignition switch two parts, the key and the actual switch, maybe its loose or the switch is bad.
You have a symptom with more than one potential source, find out what is really not working. Whats the easiest way to see if the clutch is or isn't fully disengaging?

CCF,
I had to fight this battle as well. One thing to check/try if you have already assured that the clutch is properly bled and adjusted:
-- Your master cylinder may not be "backfilling" properly. After some use some air will get pumped in there and the clutch will drag. Sometimes if you let is sit over night it will operate fine again for a short while until you pump the air back in and the process repeats. (I guess the air bubbles migrate back up the blue hose.)
-- The WSM has two pedal rod adjustments depending on the year of the shark. One with one turn of preload and one with about one turn of "slack".
-- My '79 WSM stated one turn of pre-load at the pedal rod, and this is what I did and the clutch would drag after some driving. After exhausting everything else I decided to try setting the pedal rod at the "slack" setting (after bleeding the air out -- AGAIN). The clutch has been operating fine since.
