I have Potenza S03s on my '85S. I have Conti's on my '88S4. I have Pilot Sports on my Audi TT. I took Pirelli 9000s off of my 968 and put on Goodyear F1s. They're all TOO LOUD for me...the Goodyears being the quietest. I'm looking for a new set of quiet tires for road trips...not track. Any tire with db in the name any good or is it just a marketing spoof? I've looked at the past postings on this and there seems to be chaos and little agreement. Many love the Pilot Sports and S03s and say they're quiet. They're great on the road/track but are not quiet enough for me. Do you perceive any consensus anywhere on what a quiet tire for the 928 might be? Any new stuff coming down the pike? Tirerack's member comments were pretty confusing as the tires that were rated as quiet weren't made for the cars I wanted them for. Maybe it's an impossible quest?

Don't know what size you're looking for, but I was really impressed with the BF Goodrich G-Force Sports. They are a very economical tire ($100~$130) and were very quiet IMHO through out the life of the tread. Traction was good in the dry, less so in wet, but not too bad.

The RE750's are supposed to be quieter than the RE730's. I never thought the 730's were loud on any of the five cars I can recall driving with them installed.

Adding noise supression to the car helps. I used brown bread but there are more recent advances; doing the doors and rear wheel wells may help the most.

Avons. inexpensive and fairly quiet. But Rick is right, you'll get more change from adding some soundproofing. So far the biggest gain that I've gotten is filling the open space behind the rear speakers with great stuff. I can barely hear the rear tires anymore.

+1 on the Avons, I'm happy with them. I don't think you mentioned- are you looking for 16" tires? That limits the choices somewhat....

Check out the Yokahama Advan Sports. They are OEM on the Bentley GT and they are supposed to be the quietest HP tire on the market.

Also what size tires are you running? When I switched to my 18's conti sport contact II's in much larger tires.....I did notice more noise vs the stock 16's.....

have you tried having the tires filled with nitrogen, supposed to give a quieter ride?

haha. Normal air is ~75% nitrogen. I don't buy that stuff.

Stay AWAY from the Yokohama AVS ES100's. They are noisy as hell, esp. when they start getting worn.
