Default Anyone considering GT3 seats??

Not even all GT3s have the cool seats, many have 911 style seats.
I have spent a grand total of 10 minutes in those seats, so I don't know how they'd be on a road trip.
I love my sport seats, but can't help wondering if those are better. They are way cool anyways. I might have to go on a diet to get my fat a$$ in there more comfortably now at 220#.

They look like alien faces with a dropped jaw.
Do they just slide or can they mount with tilt and tilt forward.

Guess I won't be able to hitch a ride in your backseat at 928 events with those seats.

But they WILL allow you to use 4/5 point harness.
I've got harness hooks and 4 point belts. But no seats with holes.

I dont think they match the interior lines in the 928. I dont think any seats look as good in the 928 as the 928 seats honestly.

I do want those seats in a 996 though. The reason most US GT3's dont have them is that none of the US cars came with them. The DOT didnt allow it for whatever reason they had that day of the week. So all GT3's came with the sport seats, but allot of owners got rid of those and bought the "real" GT3 seats from their dealer.

Yep, US GT3's are the ones that don't get these as stock equipment. Porsche didn't want to spend the money to get the car federalized with these seats, which is what would've been required. It wasn't that DOT wouldn't allow them, they just wanted all safety testing done with them.

I agree with Ryan, they just don't fit the look of a 928.

Actually, federalizing (at least to my knowledge from importing grey market cars from Germany) is through the DOT and EPA. EPA takes care of emissions requirements and many many other things and the DOT looks after safety and so on. The seats arent certified here. But I am pretty sure its the DOT that would be all over you had porsche shipped the cars with seats that werent tested or filed for use in the car. There is all kinds of BS to importing cars wether it be a private individual or Porsche or BMW or whoever. DOT loves to have a say in everything.

Also for the GT3 seats not just looking right, i dont thing functionally they fit the car either, the GT aspect of it that is. But they are great seats, not cheap at $1300 each from Porsche. Although I saw a set on Ebay for a pair for $1200, I think they were replicas from Tiawan, they looked ok in the pictures but who knows.

I agree with you Ryan, it is DOT that would certify. The point I tried to make is that Porsche opted not to submit them for approval due to the economics of the number of GT3's they sell here. They made the statement that they couldn't justify the cost to submit the car with GT3 seats for the approval process.

I'm sure on trips they are about the same as my Recaro's for comfort. I've only driven about 1 1/2 hours in these, no complaints.

I have just had GT3 seats or seat so far fitted to my car, the headroom has improved, I now have almost 2 inches headroom, I used to hit my head on the headliner or I would have to recline the seat a bit to clear the liner. Doing this after my car accident caused me to have a lot of neck problems. I just went for a drive today and it is a vast improvement of the stock seats.

The GT3 seats are more comfortable, since they don't have the pillows in the cushion and squab they seem to accomodate the body better, they certainly hold you better and if you have a high grip 928 like I do this is important. I can post some pics if people want to see it. I only have one seat fitted at the moment but what you can see from this is the difference in headroom.

Also you can access the rear easy no than with the stock seats, there is so much more access space.

Cheers Greg

O.K here's the side view, the position the drivers seat is in is the position I drive in. The position the passenger seat is in would be roughly the position I would have to drive in before.

Yes these are race seats but if you take it in the contest of the car, the car is pretty hardcore, so I think they fit, as I said before they are more confortable than the stock seats.

Cheers Greg

Great seats .... but they would look more at home in my Carrera ... than in a 928.

Looks like your butt is much lower to the floor than in stock seats. It is still very tempting to get some of those seats.
Greg: are those the real deal or replica seats????????? Do tell.

GT3's come with excellent seats, inbetween these that IMHO look like a baby seat, and stock 996 seats - they are called 996 sport seats, those are what I have https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...&highlight=gt3, btw these GT3 seats are in excess of 3k USED, if you see them at 1200 each, snap 'em up. REPLICAS ARE CRAP

The GT3 seats are made by Recaro as are all the factory seats in our cars. I have been told the GT3 seat is the same shell as the Recaro pole position with a larger head. I am looking into either the pole position, GT3 or SPG XL for my C2. The Gt3 seats sell for $1595 each but come with rails and are leather. There is also a Carbon Fiber version with exposed CF back vs the painted fiberglass back which cost $2500 ea.

The seat son Ebay that sell for $1200-$1500 a set are after market and made in China. I hear the quality is pretty good for the money saved but they are not TUV/FIA approved or tested.

I am not small, 6'1" 255 pounds but fit into the GT3 seats but I don't think I could climb in and out of them all the time and would not be great for long drives but would work well on the track. The shell seat also limits accessibility to the rear seats.

I was told the reason why Porsche could not import the GT3 with these seats was because at the time DOT did not allow a fixed shell as a seat in a road car. Although Porsche stepped up and had shells approved for the CGT so who knows. The car still sold anyhow.

BTW anyone selling a set of GT3 seats, Pole positions or SPG Xl's in black let me know. I need one of these three seats because they are the only ones that both my wife and I can use and still meet the new rules for harnesses.
