That relay is the ICM ( ignition circuit monitor )...and about $363 I would wonder if the temperature senders on thehead might be getting less accurate and triggering the relay ..

Okay, this is all great info. Here's what I propose.

1. Clean injectors.
2. R&R ignition wires and plugs.
3. Perform voltage test on sensors at pins 6 and 9, check for 2.5mv or greater
If out of spec then:

4. Perform sensor swap procedure as outlined by Bill with old sensors
5. retest with sensors in new location.
6. Swap coils.
7. swap dist caps with new.
8. Jack up VIN and drive a new car underneath!

It appears the sensors were working right, when the stumble occured. Since it's gone away, I think the circuit is okay, but the sensors might be suspect. the bad gas may have clogged, or worsened the injectors, and AFAIK they have never been out for cleaning. the car definantly ran much much better after a few miles on the new gas.

Dave, I got item 2, 6 and 7. Did you have something else in the final stage of the ignition I didn't cover?

Doc, The ignition amplifers. Two MOSFET amps under a plastic cover at the very front left of the engine bay.

Ah, I was thinking 'final stage' as the high tension portion of the ignition. the elec modules, would normally be the primary stage, or intermediate stage.

You say tomato, WSM calls'em final stages

Although I agree with you - doesn't seem too final to me either. In any case.... if your ICM triggers again, note which LED is on. If you then swap the connectors to the primary/intermediate/final thingamajigs and the other LED lights then.... QED.

Thx Dave, I'll check into that, another piece of the puzzle, and I'll add it to my list.

Thanks, Bill. No, I haven't tried that and the symptom hasn't reappeared for several weeks. Dogs in this neck of the woods have sharp teeth and we always let them sleep when we can!
