Yep. That's how it works. If you're not runnign an x-pipe, you'll have to wait the prescibed 8+ hours (per Innovate) for the exhaust gases to work their way out naturally. And while the sensor is slightly upstream of the X, I don't seem to have any issues with my calibration, so I have to assume that it clears it out enough to get a good calibration.
I can buy the shop vac/air compressor purge if the sensor is in the crossover. Should work ok.

New information on the Innovate group buy. Slight course correction.

One of the people interested in the group buy contacted me last night with information on a source he had found with prices very near what I could get direct from Innovate after adding in postage and any PayPal (3%) charge. The LC-1 could be had for $172.70 vs. $159.20 + about $10 for shipping & insurance through me. The $172.70 already includes shipping (within 2 to 3 days) although there is an additional handling charge of $14. The overall total would be $186.70. I was sceptical and thought they may be selling refurbished units, or new but superceded models. I contacted the company, CarPartsPlanet, this morning and asked those questions. I also asked if I could get an additional discount for the group buy. I was assured that they only sold brand new, up to date, products just the same as if purchased directly from Innovate. They did grant us an additional discount of $14 which takes care of the handling charge. That puts the total cost, including shipping, for an LC-1 to $172.70. Pretty good deal and I don't see much reason for the group purchases to go through me. I called Innovate again to confirm that the 20% off was the max discount regardless of what the group buy amount was. It is. They do give an additional discount to distributors, but I couldn't get that.

Here is what to do. Buy whatever Innovate product you want from www.carpartsplanet.com. You can do a search on the Innovate part number. The search box is in the upper right hand corner of the home web page. When you get to your shopping cart page, you'll see a data field box for a discount coupon code at the bottom, left side. Enter "928groupbuy" (without the quotes) in there. That should remove the handling charge from your order. I haven't done this yet, but you may have to do this for each item you buy, or the handling charge may apply to the entire order regardless of how many items. This may work on items other than the Innovate products too. I don't know how they set it up. The 928groupbuy discount code should work for one week. If anyone needs it for longer, I was told it could be extended.

Innovate part numbers for items people wanted, or were interested in getting.

LC-1..........3769
LM-1..........3723
XD-16........3780 (gauge only)
XD-16 kit....3781 (XD-16 with LC-1)
SSI-4.........3783
TC-4..........3784
DL-32.........3782
LM-1/RPM...3724 (LM-1 with RPM converter)

If you need the part number for another Innovate product and can't find it on the Innovate web site, I may be able to get it from the list I have.

If you run into a problem, let me know and I'll try to help. BTW, the total value of everyone's group buy was about $3400. Pretty good I think.

I bought a DL-32 and LC-1 from CarPartsPlanet to see how the 928groupbuy discount thing worked. It does work. The $14 discount on the handling charge is cumulative per product as is the handling charge, i.e., two items = $28 total discount. Unfortunately for me, the handling charge on the DL-32 was $22 instead of $14 so I got nicked $8. The handling must go on the cost of the item rather than the same $$ for each item. Overall, ok. $609 total rather than $699 + shipping retail.

Thanks, Louie. I got an additional $14 discount on my measely WB02 sensor even though it only has a $7 handling charge. It ended up at only $62 and change out the door.

Big oops!
I got an email from CarPartsPlanet this afternoon changing their discount offer. It seems that the flat rate $14 discount didn't work very well for them when the cost of the item was relatively low. They ended up losing money on some items when the flat rate discount was applied.

Now, the discount will only remove the actual handling charge and no more. Also, for the discount to work at all the total order has to be more than $200. That screws the deal if someone only wants an LC-1 which comes to $172.70. You could order something else to push the total order to more than $200 and get no handling charge.

Sorry for the confusion.

This is having a life of it's own.
I informed CarPartPlanet that I had relayed the change to the discount offer to the group. I also reminded them that the $200 minimum was under the cost for the LC-1 which many of you wanted.

They emailed right back that they had lowered the minimum for the discount to apply to $125 rather than $200. That'll get just about any Innovate product and still get the handling charge eliminated.

Whew!

I thought it was little too good to be true and there might be a flaw in their system when I saw my order results.

Tip of the hat, Louie. Thank you for all your efforts.

I've been looking around for several weeks at all the different systems available and with my minimal budget the LC-1 fits just fine with the $172.70 out-the-door pricing from carpartsplanet. Checkout worked as described and the product page said In Stock. Already got a confirmation email.

This buy has a lot of interest so I'm looking forward to more threads on using our new tool(s).

Thanks again.

You have a point about having common tools. We can have a better understanding of a problem someone else is having if we use the same tool ourselves.

Wouldn't it be possible to purge by simply removing the EZK relay or fuel pump fuse, open the throttle and crank the engine to purge the exhaust system ?

word of caution to all canadian residence. They do not read any notes on the order, so if you make an order ONLY use a PO Box otherwise they will ship by purolator ground and then you will get nailed with a massive brokerage fee making it cheaper to just go into lordco and pick it up over the counter.

does anyone have a phone # I can call them on and make sure it is shipped by USPS instead, I have already responded to the email but I cannot guarentee that it will get there before it is out the door.

as well the entire handling charge was not removed for me, the handling charge listed at $66.00 and the discount was $42.

That should work too, but I worry a lot about things that probably don't matter. The free air calibration is based on the oxygen content of the air that's being used during the calibration process. The free air cal assumes there will be approx 20% oxygen. Any contaminent in the air will alter the oxygen content and throw the calibration off. I'd be somewhat concerned about oil vapors, or fuel vapor from a leaking injector, passing out into the exhaust and contaminating the air. Better to do it on a cold engine I think. Before I trusted any method other than actual free air, I'd want to do a calibration by the other method, then take the sensor out and do a free air calibration. If no appreciable difference, then I'd trust it. When calibrating the Tech Edge, you get a number so you can compare one free air calibration with another. It's normal to have a small difference, maybe 20, in the cal number between calibrations even in free air.
