Compared to other boards, Rennlist and the 928 boards is very tame. I can just imagine the reaction you must have generated on other boards.

I have to agree with Dave and Ryan on this 'dang' fool- his are the only posts I generally ignore, because they seem to be full of "why is there air, and how come its not chrome?"
Nobody here knows it all- and most people only post when they have something positive to contribute, so when someone shows up and floods the forum with with 'why is there air' questions without much real contribution, some people get testy. Its flat annoying, and as hard to ignore as a fly in a phone booth...
So, dangler- use the search function and figure it out yourself. Then post an answer instead of an inane question. Its just common courtesy.

I think what may have stirred up some of the people is that I ask questions that they don't know the answers to some times and it makes them afraid or something. The only people likely to give an answer to this one based on fact instead of conjecture would be somebody thats tried it, or tried something like it with other trannys. I barely understand how the tranny works, but I see two shafts full of gears in a housing, if two other more common, better quality shafts full of gears could be made to fit without a lot of effort that would be a very good thing, worth some development time to the whole community, but no cost savings to the person who does the first one.

Consider this...remove the 928 and insert a Pacer...now it all makes sense!

Dangley bits...post some pics of your car and work so that we know you are legit. This will put most of us at ease. Or better yet, as previously requested. Leave this place. You know..put up or shut up.

your a moron, you see simply 2 shafts, every shaft has different dimensions, different materials, different everything. The problem is you see simply 2 shafts, you dont think that an input shaft from a G28 is different from a G50 or that all the associated parts to run those shafts are also different. Sure each shaft performs the same job, BUT THEY ARE ALL DIFFERENT! The only shafts that will fit, apart from custom one off one (I know Guard II and Quaife dont make parts for the G28) are shafts from a G28.

You think there is just this magic Mazda part or some part from a Nissan that just magically fits?

For 1 your working with a transaxle, there are VERY VERY few cars EVER prodced with this design, its pretty much exclusively on higher end exclusive cars. Cars that cost much more then your 83 928. Where parts are even more rare, and even more expensive. Yet you still go on about this. Not to mention most the cars on the road dont top 200hp. Most older cars (where parts would be abundant and really cheap are going to be 150 hp 4 cylinders or who knows what.) couldnt handle the power output anyway, so if there was lets say a G28 like box that was used on some old alfa, that olf alfa would probably have a 4 cylinder and because of it have less sturdy shafts, different gear ratios etc etc etc etc etc on and on and on. Why again, would you want to put something from another car into your Porsche. The trans that your car came with, wasnt some random off the shelf part. It was designed for the 928. Porsche thought it was plenty strong enough. WHY THE HELL DO YOU THINK THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH IT DUDE!

If you rebuilt your box with all fresh stuff i dont think it would top $2500. Is that really too much for a rebuilt transmission. That would probably include all the later syncros and all the updated parts as well. WHY ARE WE STILL TALKING ABOUT THIS?

And again you with cost savings, WE ALL TOLD YOU THESE CARS ARE COMPLEX AND THEY COST MONEY TO PUT RIGHT. Thats why EVERYONE says to get the best one you can afford cause they ARE COST PROHIBITIVE to fix one thats not right. If you have a beater, thats cool, who cares if ithe shift action isnt perfect. But the last thing a reasonable person does to a beater is try to turn it into a restoration project. You do that when there is much higher demand then supply, and with 928, there is far more supply then demand.

Dude!!! You barely understand how a CAR works! Those who do, get tired of the ludicrous questions. Can you see how this can be a problem on a forum like this, where most of the owners do their own wrenching.

lu·di·crous –adjective causing laughter because of absurdity; provoking or deserving derision; ridiculous; laughable: a ludicrous lack of efficiency.

I had to take him off ignore so I could read this thread after multiple PM's.

MUHAHAHAH Best quote

"I think what may have stirred up some of the people is that I ask questions that they don't know the answers to some times and it makes them afraid or something" Who is scared of not knowing the answer on how to put a sideways recliner in pleace of the back seat?

I have to agree.. Make a "DanglerB Thread" and keep it all in there. This is getting crazy.

The seat springs can't really collapse the same way your bed springs might start to sag. If the seat is lumpy or has a perma-*** imprint, it's because the foam is old and worn out. You can buy replacement foam from a lot of different places, and switch it out in a day or less. Make sure to have a set of hog ring pliars, lots of hog rings and some 3M adhesive spray. Makes a big difference.

But I do agree that the rubber ducky antenna is an abomination. I was surprised to hear that GregB was complicit. Although, to be fair, I will take clients money to do things that I don't entirely agree with, after taking time to explain why I don't agree with them, and I would assume such was the case in this example.

I've read thru this tread and I think it's gotten way out of hand.

Who cares what danglerb want to do to his car? Ryan, in he pisses you off so much, why do you keep posting to this thread. You made your point postings ago. Stop feeding the monster.

If you think his questions are dumb, don't answer them.

I'm new to th forum and after reading this thread I'm going to retreat cause I don't want to be stomped for asking too many stupid questions.

I'm out.

Angel, don't worry, everyone asks dumb questions, everyone makes mistakes. Nobody gets jumped on for one, or a few, or a few dozen -- this is a very patient group.

However, when it's a few *hundred* in a few months, and the individual goes on to defend ignorant positions(like shocks transmitting vibration) patience wears thin.

Here are Just the Dang threads started by Dang... there is much, much more of this sprinkled throughout threads started by others.

Take a quick skim through there -- It's doubtful that you could match that, even if you ask all of the dumb questions you've ever thought of.

Before you run away thinking we're all a bunch of meanies, look at how much patience has been used up in this case before you react.

The deffinition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, yet expecting different results...

So you're sitting at home on a friday night, with nothing to do..no new stargates yet. And low and behold a Dangler thread pops up. (Shock of all shocks) Now you've hit hundreds of them before and they've all been a waste of time, bandwidth and a few precious seconds of your ever shortening lifespan.. Yet you can't resist the urge to read just one more, hoping it will meet you expectations of intelligence. Just one more.. Sadly you're let down again..

Now who's the real idiot? Him for making another pointless thread or you for expecting a different outcome upon clicking it?

He's only guilty of being bit by the same bug as the rest of us. Except that while, we can control our excitement to a sane level (at times) he's giddy like a school girl getting her first lollipop form a guy in a trench coat. And we all know that young giddy girls just won't shut up. When they get excited about something they feel they must talk about it even if it's just jiberish. Give him a little more time, he'll get over it and settle down. In the mean lets all just hit the back button and relax.

Personally I don't want to think I need a restoration reason or repair question to come here and chat P-cars. Sometimes it's nice just to shoot the breeze and occassionally even talk hypothetical "what if's"

Bottom line is uying a 928 is "cost prohibative" to begin with, and it's down hill from there. Talking return on investment economics with a 928 owner is like debating the village idiot. You can't argue against ingorance, you can only hope for a tie at best.
