Aero underbody pics
Guys has anybody got underbody pics of new top end supercars, e.g Enzo, 599, 575, Zonda, Aston Marton etc? I have requested some pics from Ferrari and will post them if I get a response, that is if there is any interest of course, please anybody with pics post away! I will see what I can find.

Is a 207 MPH underbody any good for you Greg ?

Very plain , completely flat , no side skirts, only vents appear to be at rear of engine & they sit proud of the surface. The bolts apart from the ones at the front are standard size 13mm hex head , you'd have thought they would have used mushroom allen headed bolts.

When you're done, and have tested stability at high 150-200mph direstion changes, post your pics. A WIAT for me is having a plate made to extend back from the stock 85/86 mini cover. I looked at the underside of the car while it was on the lift and it doesn't look easy to make a front to back undercover, let alone figuring out the correct shape. My cover will only extend to the support points at the back of the engine similar to the S4+. It would be nice to have an effective diffuser to clean up the rear airflow.

I'm guessing flat plate from back of bellypan to rear suspension/gearbox area.
Ducts (NACA?) to draw heat out from the cat/exhaust area.
Then diffuser to a trimmed back rear bumper cover.
The fuel tank/external pump sits low and may get in the way of an efficient diffuser design.
May need more vents/ducts by the tranny to keep it cool.
Ernest (NYC) Just speculating. Nothing like the downforce generating ducted fans from the Can Am crazy days.

They are using plain aluminum tread plate! I suppose that makes some boundary layer turbulence, but easier than putting dimples all over the surface.
The header vents are plain louvered vents. It looks like the rear brakes have curved diverters.
At the stock ride height, there's plenty of room under a 928 for a pan like this...

The rear channels are interesting on that 599. Curved at the front, they are channeling air that is pulled in forward of the rear wheels.

No need for this underbody stuff for our uses, even on a road race car . It's just drag and a small amount at that. however if you are trying to get to the 185 to 200mph range on a regular basis, then it probably becomes important. remember the drag of my rear wing??? This is much more drag than the underbody would prevent. look at the drag coefficient of a ferarri vs our 928s4. what, .29 vs .32? not a lot. a wing will bring the Cd to .36. At 100mph, total wing drag would be near 25lbs. through a 4.5:1 reduction in 3rd gear, thats 5ft-lbs of torque lost. Now, at 200mph, it would be near 20ft-lbs and that becomes subtantial. However, the underbody , uncovered, doesnt create as much drag as a racing wing. Its only a parasitc drag. a boundary layer drag and its total effects are relatively small.
sure it looks cool under the car, but I'd be more worried about your windshield wipers and the older mirrors!
also notice the vents in the engine area of the underpanel tray. its venting frontal pressure that builds in the engine compartment to underneath the car. (bad for downforce and bad for drag) the diffuser toward the rear is to accelerate the flow under the car for lower pressure for that flow, and the pressure raises as it exits the rear of the car. those underbody panels are mainly for keeping the engine parts cleaner.

Searched some downforce figures for the Ferraris, these figures come from the Ferrari chat site, They are said to be taken at 300 kph.
