Default 928 Repair Manual in PDF format

I have the 928 repair manual set in PDF format. Having been through the difficult and time consuming search to purchase the complete set a few years ago I was wondering if there is any interest in obtaining the manual in PDF format. It's approximately 350 megs. The PDF file is indexed and ready to go.

One of the guys on the list has it indexed and sells it. The more the merrier though. Which version etc. do you have?

I'm not following you andrew, could you speak up?

There has been a crappy .pdf version on an english site along with Pet for years. Somebody other than John is selling something on ebay, actually there are multiple somethings on ebay, all of dubious I imagine origins, so whats your point?

I'm thinking of emailing John to get the tech manual CDs. Either you support people who make efforts to help the list or you don't.

Hey Dangler...
Here's where I'm coming from.

Jim Morehouse who has been a long-time supported of the list put together IMHO the best set of CD's that are searchable. Most of the people here know about Jim. It's no small feat. I know becasue I actually scanned and put together one of the first sets, but it pales in comparrison to Jim's version which not only has the WSM, but also includes tech bulletins, special publications, tech spec books, and more. (Next version will have owners manuals too!)

I just find it quite interesting that Dan's very first post was this thread. Most people will either jump into an existing thread as their 1st post, or start a new thread introducing themselves... not selling their wares.

Oh, I just assumed he was going to give them to people. ;(

BTW I said John, but meant Jim, and when will the tech CDs add the owners manuals, since I am thinking of a set to go with the WSM CD I have now.

There are two sets of manuals in two different UK sites. Both are Jim's IIRR. Site which asks for ££ and has online ordering system has much much older version of Jim's work. Free site has same as latest version available from Jim. What neither of these or any other outside source have is Jim's 3 CD set of close to 100 factory etc documents which contain much information that is not in WSM. They are very useful. Next version is going to be even better as it could have entire ROW WSM and should have most owners manuals.

db928:

You need to check the Rennlist rules...
-If selling something, you MUST list a price
-To sell something - you MUST be a paid member.

Pony up the $18 to support Rennlist. It is BY FAR the best $$ a 928 owner can spend.

This got me thinking.....I may be 'overstocked.' I have a couple of Chiltons, the microfiche (but have to use a flashlight and microscrope), EuroSelect catalog, Service Information book for '79, original (copied) PET program, purchased CD set from Mr. Moorehouse, Porsche downloaded PET on all of my computers, downloaded pdf of the workshop manuals, 'Models Dimensions Tolerances' booklet, custom personal binder with everything from printouts of posts/emails from Porschefans days to Rennlist items, a complete WSM used constantly, and two complete additional WSMs for backup. No, don't want to part with any of them. Perhaps next step is, "....Hi, I'm JP, and I'm a 928-aholic.......?"

928 holics anonymous meeting could be useful for me also. List is probably missing something:

- Factory 9 folder WSM, barely used because of all PDF versions
- Factory microfilm WSM, really got it only as collectable and have tried it maybe once ot twice
- Two different parts publications, one factory version from '78 and other '78-89 (IIRR) Porsche NA made which is on Jim's CD's also
- All 4 small factory Tech Spec/Models Dimensions Tolerances Books in English
- 4 folders of explosion diagrams from factory. These have all diagrams which are in PET but no parts numbers or any other info. They were probably done to assist in seeing what pictures look like in microfilm PET.
- PET on microfilm, 4 different sets of films which cover different MY and separate set of seat films
- Factory PDF PET purchased from local Porsche center
- PDF PET donwloaded from net. Little different version than what is on factory CD. Can't recal which version has German files also, this factory version or one whichs is freely downloadable in net and in Jim's CD's.
- 3 different versions of PET exe program downloaded from net, one v5 and two different v6 versions IIRR
- Jim's latest 4 CD set, WSM & PET on one and 3 CD's of other docs
- Jim's earlier 3 CD set, WSM & PET on one and 2 CD's of other docs
- Andrew's (probably) PDF WSM purhased used locally
- PDF WSM purchased and downloaded from UK site just to see what it is
- German language WSM scanned as jpg pictures. Only covers up to MY '88 IIRR and do not have any wiring diagrams. Not particularly good quality and not very useful in this format. Been thinking about turning it to PDF but haven't had time so far.
- No good for anything Chilton's aftermarket WSM
- '78 US, '90 US, '92 German and UK owners manuals, '92 German warranty book
- Maybe 50 or 60 928 specific brochures. One US and German version for all years at least. Also UK, French, Italian etc. language version(s) for some years.
- Maybe 20 or 30 posters
- Few factory marketing VHS
- Several small models
- Most likely all 928 specific books writen in English and German languages including all 4 known versions of Project 928 in varying condition. Large pile of English language magazines with 928 content starting from early eighties.
- Several VHS, CD and DVD full of 928 videos
- PDF WSM, PET and Jim's CD content plus some other stuff is on all three computers. '78, '87 and '92 MY wiring diagrams, selected PET and Jim's documents in PDF files also in Nokia Communicator for emergencies. GTS WSM and PET printed in folders in garage for repair works.

Sorry for the late response to your question re the next edition of the Tech info cds. I have to confess that I've been procrastinating a bit (well, perhaps more) on finishing it. I still have my two owners manuals ('82 and '88 USA) to scan and process and should be able to start distributing the update then.

In the meantime, if anyone has an immediate need for one of them, let me know at jim928"at"ptd.net and I'll email it. Some are up to 9MB so you'll want to use a broadband connection.

The Euro version of the FWSM is also still "in progrss"...thanks to John Speake for his patience with the extended loan of the latest section and to Will Hunt for prompting me to respond. You'd think a retired guy would be able to get things done a bit faster.

Hey Jim,

My father recently retired and you're not fooling anyone . I'm sure you're more busy now than before you 'retired'. Only now you don't have the same people telling you where to be and when .

On the CDs, I can't stress enough how the quality and convenience are worth the wait. I was lucky enough to have come along after they were available, but I can't imagine what it was like to work on this car before these great reference materials were created and compiled.

I'm as much of a bargain shopper as the next guy, but if someone is just trying to 'pass along' or redistribute something that they didn't create and haven't put any effort into, I don't think they deserve money for it. Just my .02
