Trans coolant lines to the radiator "leak"
Hi all.... I have had this leak at the front right of the car, by where the trans coolant lines go into the radiator. Has anyone had this problem ? If so how did you fix it? I have been told that it is just a matter of making sure the fitting are tight, but I need to get bigger wrenches if that is the case. They are big. Anyway.... Any suggestions would be apreciated.
BTW.. I have a 88 S4/auto 4 speed.

Yes, trans fluid. The steering rack was just rebuilt so itisn't that. Just an obnoxious leak on the pass side of th radiator where the trans lines hook in.

I've got the same leak. Problem is that my fittings are TIGHT! Mine is coming from where the nut flange is swaged onto the rubber hose. No solution except to buy a new/used one from 928 intl, or have it rebuilt. I plan to do it when I do my Transmission change. Hope yours just needs tightening.

Wow Malcom!! Thanks for that diagram. I am going to take that home and see what's up.. Maybe it's another line all together. I think it's #5 or #9. I can see a drip comming from the top one which looks to be #5. On top. On the engine side of the rad.

The #5 hose runs from the rad tank 32mm to the oil cooler 19mm and would the easiest to check for tightness or replacement. With a COOL engine clean the hoses and area with brake cleaner or the like then warm her up, go for a drive and see where the leak is from.
Be careful not to tighten too much and break the cooler or the rad connections.
The diagram is from the Porsche electronics parts book PET. Along with the electronic WSMs and all Tech Specs it's available through Jim Morehouse.

Rarely does a tight fitting get loose all by it's self far more common is the hose deteriorates and starts leaking where the fitting is swedged onto the hose.

Pray to God it's 5. Porsche has DISCONTINUED lines #6, #7, #10 and #11 according to the tech at my local dealer. Lines 10 & 11 leaked on me hence how I found out.

Greg,
I had a leak on the other side (next to the power steering reservoir).
If you tighten the large fittings, make sure that you use a "counter" wrench to keep the other fitting (the one in the radiator) from loosening up.

Roger

Thanks guys, I took a quick look tonight, I need to take the top rad hose off to get to the fitting and take a look at the hose. It is definately wet around that area. Not good news about the other hoses, discontinued and all. What are our options if it is one of the discontinued hoses?
