Closed cell foam. I did this for the rear wheel wells, seems to cut down a bit on the noise.

Jim Mayzurk has done this one with very good results. I'll let him post and explain. As for Dynomat, there is a cheaper alternative. Made a big difference in my 79 and I have not even done the doors yet! It's called Brown Bread and it's here http://www.b-quiet.com/

I used closed cell foam on both the 89GT and the GTS. Only in the B pillers. Access is from the rear wheel well with the fender liner removed. Closed cell foam will not absorb moisture, rodents or bugs and adhears so well it has never squeeked. On the passenger side there is the tip over valve so I put pre-formed closed cell foam sheets over the valves and lines then foamed those in. It made a dramatic reduction in the tire noise we get from the rear tires.

You know, it just occured to me that if you lined the wheel well with that press-n-seal stuff you could free-spray that "Great Stuff" closed-cell foam without it sticking permanently. Just a thought.

www.raamaudio.com is a great place for sound proofing info and to order the adhesive backed and ensolite sound proofing. But that thread doesn't address what Jim used in his B pillars though.

Jim,
Do you remember what specific product you used?
Gary, I used ''Great Stuff" the aerosol can stuff from HomeDepot or Lowes. Stick the hose past the edge of the liner and inject the foam. Again, it doesn't absorb moisture, doesn't squeek, and can be easily dug out if I ever need to get back in there. BUT, best of all it made a VERY noticable reduction in tire noise from the rear tires. Keep in mind your rear tire is only about 30" from your ear and the hollow B piller acts like an echo chamber directing the sound even closer to your ear.

Great, thanks Jim. I've got two cans on the shelf waiting on confirmation that there won't be unintended consequences. I did buy the window and door version which is supposed to expand less with less potential pressure generated than the standard Great Stuff foam.

In this city, testing wet weather pwerformance is as easy as doing it and waiting an hour. So, foam I used did nothing to keep water out, it acted like a sponge. Now I'm trying urethane.
