It is a perfect pressure fit (look at all the contours and edges...its really perfect!). Also if you look carefull the bottom edge has space, and does not fully cover the bottom of the trunk...I believe this is so it is possible to remove the carpet with the box still in place....

I can't see the rear tie down straps, so this is covering several inches of carpet I suspect. If you have the carpet attached correctly, there is no way to get the carpet unhooked without removing this thing. You probably can lift it easily and get the carpet on that side unhooked, so it's not like you can't get at it without tools, but I was simply responding to another poster who said you could get at the spare without *moving* the box at all. This is clearly not possible.
