Is Hwy 70 out of Denver and to Grand Junction a great road, or what??!!!
The 928 begs for more and more along that road. Hour after hour. Until you get to Salina, Utah, and the Hwy Patrol training area. Bummer. Gots ta reel 'er in for awhile, eh?? But Nevada and free air is not far away from that point.

Yeah, believe it or not there was a decent amount of traffic, and of course I was still getting to know the car and didn't want to push it. Disabled on the side of the road in the desert isn't my idea of fun. I feel lucky too, after the mechanic showed me the condition of the belts & hoses once I got back home. Wiggling them around too much in Denver might have triggered a miserable trip.

I should add that the car came with a radar detector but I didn't even know it. PO pointed to it and said he didn't know what it was, but that his PO said it was a 02 sensor or something. If only...

People that don't take that big trip are missing a lot, the BEST thing a 928 does is put away the miles.

Ed,

Sorry we missed meeting you. Earl Gillstrom was over at our house last night for dinner and described your car and the work you and he did. Sounds nice. Thanks for the purchase of the fuel pump from my '88 S4 that became an organ donor a year ago (Semi trailer truck destroyed it). Hope you have a great trip. I drove my GTS home from Houston a year ago, an '89 5 spd home from Arkansas 13 months ago, and an '88 S4 home from Portland OR about 17 months ago. The S4 trip was across the northern tier, and a wonderful ~4K mile trip. Dodged a little bit of weather in both the '89 and GTS trips. Hope you don't have any troubles getting across the "currently icy" great plains. Best wishes,

Hi Gary,

Yes, sorry to have missed you, but thank you SO MUCH for the fuel pump and fuel filter! They're working fine, no more buzzing!

Earl mentioned your name quite a bit as we worked. It sounds like you guys have a great friendship. And after seeing all of your's and Earl's equipment, I think I am going to have to take it up a notch myself! Ha ha...

Ok gang. I'm in eastern OK, I think the town is Sallisaw. Stayed overnight here.

So far, the S4 is doing great. Gauges are steady, fluids are steady as well.

Keeping a steady 80 mph with the rest of traffic, making good time, but not pushing it. 1700 or so miles down, 1300 or so more to go. Hoping to put in 1000 miles today.

Not much to report, been avoiding the worst of the weather. Enjoying cruising along and watching the scenary go by. And I can't beleive what a great road car the 928 is. I've been super comfortable, getting good gas mileage, and I'm the only 928 on the road.

A few more pics here, but not many. Not stopping to take too many pics: http://edb.smugmug.com/gallery/2361888/1/123920569

I'll check back in later taters.

Taking a long road trip is an awesome experience. I did 1100 miles when I bought mine, and helped Roger bring his new '78 back ~1800 miles from NorCal. There aren't many, if any, better cars to do it in than a Shark.

BTW, you look too tall to be able to fit in the car with a cowboy hat on....

Thanks for the update Ed, we're all jealous here sitting at our desks while you're behind the wheel looking a 1000 miles of 'quality time'.

That last pic is a really good one.

Great buy Ed, you did a great job. Looks like an excellent 928 for little money.

I am too tall!

But if you can't wear a cowboy hat on a cross country trip in your 928, when can you wear one?

BTW, my wife and kids are mortified that I'm wearing that out in public. For some reason they think I am crazy. But I like it and it suits the mood.

Ok, clicked off another 1000 miles yesterday. Made it to Flagstaff, AZ. Will see how far I get today, but I may have to stay over another night. We'll see.

Nothing too exciting to report. S4 is doing great, piling up the miles.

I've been threading the weather needle big time. Just missed major ice storms in New England, the Southeast, OK and Texas, and now AZ & New Mexico are expecting snow!

Some pics from yesterday:

I'll see about checking in later.

Rolling, rolling, rolling...

Ed, I think your speedo is malfunctioning because if it weren't that would mean you were... oh .

Great pix.

Man this brings back memories of my homecoming. Driving across the desert at sunrise, seeing potentially great photo opps, and clicking the shutter iwith one hand, while driving at brisk speed with the other. I like the pic of that mesa with the sunlight on it!
