What sort of trade in offers have any of you gotten for a 928?
I traded in my 81 AT in 1987 for $18.5k with about 65k miles on it. That was maybe 20% under market value for the time, but I was done in two days and drove home a new 944T. My last private party sale took more like 6 months. No plans to sell anything, private or otherwise, just curious as its a topic I don't recall seeing here.

The following post says a lot since you KNOW the merc dealer made money on the sale.."My good friend Michael Willhoit has just sold that '93 red over tan GTS with only 27,000 miles on it for $47,500!
Yes, this is the same exact GTS that was being undersold by an east coast Mercedes dealership about a week or two ago for $24,500. " Most dealers when faced with taking in a 928 will phone a wholesaler and get a bid over the telephone basically selling the car BEFORE they agree to trade for it. And you can guess about how much a wholesaler is going to bid on a car he has never seen...

2 years or soago I went to a Dodge dealer looking at a viper, when sales rep. came up I asked what I could get for my 86.5 auto as trade in. He looked over car and said maybe $2000. At the time car had 70k and looked (still does) great. Walked away as he stillt ried to make a deal.

Sold my 89 5spd S4 to a used Porsche dealer [AIC] for 14,300.00. I might have gotten 16 or 17, but it was no hassle. I let it go thanksgiving weekend. He sold it before New Years for 21,500.
To be fair, he cleaned and detailed it, and sent it out to a 928 mechanic he knows before listing. I expect he had the front bumper resprayed, and the whole car buffed. AIC only sells the best, and stands behind a solid reputation.
If I sold my 80 right now, I think maybe 4,500.00 would be it's worth. What people would pay me, I mean. I don't think a dealer would touch it either. Ask Keith W what he sold his most beautiful auto OB for. He had that beauty as nice as they can be made, and it went with expensive wheels too.
Fair market value did not do that car justice.

Hah, Jim if I took my car to Ford of Orange, just who do you think they would be calling to get a wholesale price, eh, you maybe?
New car dealers don't like to put "anything" on the lot older than about 5 years, but no small number of dealers are also car collectors. My old Lincoln dealer out in Redlands owned a good 20+ insane cars from the muscle car era he paid close to nothing for.
My first car a 1964 Alfa convertible, was a trade in at Fiat dealer where one of my mom's friends son worked as a salesman. He wanted to sell the guy a 124 sedan, and the dealer wouldn't allow a 10 year old car on the lot, so Danny had to call around and find a buyer before they took it as a trade. Lucky for both of us his mom knew I was looking for sports car.

Yes I have gotten phone calls from dealers who were trying to put a value on a trade and no we never bought one that way. I too owned an Alfa Spider at one time fun little car 1750 cc I thoght of it as 2/3 rds of A Jaguar which I had a few before.
