Ed,
And to think that I thought you had found all those things; The pot of gold, the fountain of youth, and what ever the last thing was. I forgot what it was and they say that memory is the second thing to go!!

Things are easing up with me time-wise so it will get more weekend driving -- sharky and I both are happier when that happens. On a fun run, doing moderate speeds, I'll usually get more like 275 miles out of a tank. I don't drive with gas mileage in mind, but I do track it on long trips just out of curiosity.

My mileage is varies quite a bit......for example.....driving 120miles to a DE...20.5mpg....fill up drive 4 miles to track...drive 80ish miles on the track and back to same gas station before home....8.8mpg....on the way home...again 20ish...... On the way to LA averaging 80-90mph it got 18mpg, but on the way home at a slightly more spirited pace it got right at 20mpg....
If you look in the back of the owners manual where the power-torque charts are there also is a fuel consumption chart.....with the 2.2 rear end the lowest comsumption is right about 3K rpms......OR about 90ish mph!!! "officer I was just trying to save gas!" Bottom line is 928's are not gas misers

Stock '90 S4 Auto - Since ownership (over 3000 mi) 21.95 MPG. A run of 460 km (280 mi) in 3.5 hrs gave 20 mpg with speeds up to 250 kph (150 mph) reached. The return trip (with wife in the car) at 70 mph gave 25 mpg.

This will sound silly, but when I took my 85 on her 1st trip out of town (Starkville ms to Jackson ms) I drove at 60-65 for 2.5 hours averaged just a tad over 27mpg, the tach never got over 2400 rpm. it was measured by the tank.

I've decided the only way to get 21-22mpg out of my shark is to use cruise control....when I don't I'm always playing around with the gear shifter thingy and mileage goes to pot. It may be a design flaw.
Also, a well known NW 928 mechanic/racing fanatic says the Bosch 4 Platinums don't work well in 928s. Don't in my '85S anyway.

Ed, were you replacing a high-mileage set of plugs? Not trying to argue with you about your results, but everything I've heard about these multi-electrode platinums is that at best, they are no improvement over copper and I'm curious about your different results.

I'm not sure where you've heard the non-positive issues on the +4's.....They may not be the best thing since sliced bread, but I've had good luck with them, and know many 911 guys that swear by them. I never thought twice about going to them when I put new plugs on my list of to-dos, to me, this is the plug to have.
IMO, the 4 electrode design and it's "unshielded" spark make perfect sense when I consider how the "perfect" sparkplug should look. Gapped perfectly all of the time, too.
