Floridians beware
I picked this up from my dyno forum. It was posted by Carolina Speed Shop in Myrtle Beach, SC. http://www.carolinass.com/ They are working on performance improvements to a Florida State police patrol car that will soon be busy extracting revenue from unsuspecting motorists.
"<snip>and a Vortech-supercharged/intercooled 450rwhp 2002 Florida Highway Patrol P-71 Pursuit Interceptor Ford Crown Vic I respectfully named BLACKBIRD, so-called for homage to the SR71 BLACKBIRD US spyplane, and to the fact that it's solid black, limo-tinted, black COBRA R wheels w/Dunlop W-rated(186mph) tires, and red ceramic-painted calipers, and it FLIES. Budgeted at $14,000."

Heh heh heh...a crown vic with 450 hp? Well, when I was in Michigan in 2003 this guy in a Mercury Marauder picked a fight with my S2 on I-275 outside of Detroit; he won't do that again! I shifted into 5th at 110 mph and the shift alone put a car length on him-
450 hp? He might even be able to keep up with me. Who knows...
N!
PS: I paid $10,600 for my car almost 8 years ago....

Yea...not much for twisties down there...mostly flat and straight like the 95...perfect choice for an interceptor. Game on for the worlds GT cars.

Vortech acutally sells a police package supercharger.....they market it to traffic enforcement patrol units.....I saw a video of one a while back, it quoted HP around 450 vs 239 stock.....but its selling point was how it doesn't burn that much more gas (yea right)......a 450hp police interceptor (or so they are called) is just about silly....most cops drive about as well as they shoot......giving them more power is like giving them a machine gun......cool, but not needed

So far, most Florida interstate speed limits are 70 and you can set the cruise right under 80 and they don't bug ya! It's not as fast As I Could Go, but it is appealing to be the second fastest in any group. I am going to hope that they'll all be stationed along I-95 down in "Cops" Country (sorry Miami/JAX dudes) and that us Tally folks will be left alone.

I was looking for that shop the other day to see if they have a dyno but got side tracked.
I think I may just head back out there today and see what I can find out...

I don't care how fast the cop car or your car is. Like my Grandfather used to tell me..." son, you can't outrun their radio". The biggest problem with stealth Po-Po is that you will blow right past them without thinking. Then. BAM!!!!!!! You have a ticket. I think they should be required to be marked. Keeps the playing field somewhat level. A boy can dream.

That is a completely stupid waste of tax dollars. I thought the prevailing mindset among law enforcement was that they weren't going to do anything to provoke/prolong high speed chases out of regard to injury to innocent bystanders, and that they were instead working on other ways of ending chases, such as spikes, etc?

In Kalifornia, they must be in a marked vehicle and/or be in uniform to stop you.
(Of course this doesn't apply to movie stars masquarading as policepersons in movies ABOUT Kalifornia) We have "low profile" cars here: Crown Vics with no immediately noticeable markings and light bars on the rear parcel shelf and little hubcaps that no one would ever order and LOTs of antennas on the trunk lid. Then there are the white Camaro chase cars with only a CHP sign on the door. Sneaky buggers. And of course the solo motorcycles. Big business in Kalifornia. Never a dull moment around here.

Ron H., you forgot to add the Mustang GT's that are now creeping around w/out lightbars and minimal markings. Very easy to pass up...
