I attached mine with double sided tape (not foam tape) I think it's the same stuff used for mounting pictures into card surrounds. The curtain/table cloth may be reusable next time around but the taoe won't but it's a lot easier than trying to remove contact cement.

I like to use the strip-caulk because I have it, and there aren't many other places to use it on the car besides the air box pieces under the dash. Oh, and because you can always peel the plastic back easily and reseal it when done just by pushing back on it. It's very close to what the factory used originally.
I have to have the door panels off agin sometime this season to put in new felts. When I do I'll cut a paper pattern for the plastic, and maybe package a kit with the plastic, the strip-caulk (there are -many- feet in a package..) and a few of each of the two door-panel clips.

FWIW I used hot glue (needed an excuse to buy a unit), so far so good. If your armrest plastic is in poor shape, look for the steel plate reinfiorcements some vendors carry - they also worked for me.

I have used rubber cement with good results. Even a poor condition door sheet can be repaired with clear plastic tape from the front side.
Rubber cement allows for damage free removal of the liner sheet later. Application only need to be applied to the door, then apply the sheet. Usually comes in a container with a brush cap.
