Is this the clutch pedal adjustment or the clutch spring assist adjustment.
The clutch assist spring pushes at a dogleg (90 deg) attachment arm below where the clutch pedal is hinged. The assist spring only becomes active when the clutch is pressed more than about 1/2 way in.
Not sure how setting too much assist will affect clutching. It'll become really light like a Honda Civic.

I've done more than my share of 1 hour GWBridge crossings. Cranked up the spring assist and my left knee is a lot happier.
That uphill crawl on the GW Bridge approach is a killer.

My 88 had a 13mm adjustment nut. Think the earlier cars used a wingnut to adjust spring assist. Afshin's car used a wingnut.
Slide the seat back most of the way and go spelunking by the pedals. It's buried pretty far up the pedal cluster but reachable without twisting yourself into a pretzel.
One of the easiest things to adjust once I figured it out. Took me 5 years to find the clutch adjustment spring.

Any other ideas of sources for this gotta-have-it item before I go the hard route?
Hey Leslie,

Well as luck would have it my pedals seemed to close when I bought my S4 So I have a set of the extensions “Double High” might just solve your problem. I would hate to see one of the 928 gals have to switch cars. The hubby will still be able to drive the car after he moves the seat back A bit.

If you think it will solve your problem drop me a PM and will talk

So I've driven Godzilla for 7 years now. Today, the clutch feels like any other car's clutch. Thank you guys, my calf thanks you. My hip thanks you and my back thanks you. Shows you .... there is a lot to know about the 928. It took me 3 minutes

If you have weak quadriceps muscles.
Athletes who do a lot of long distance running or hill running.
Those who have had a previous knee dislocation
Good lord, Hupp, that's a lot of detailed info there. Taking a long shot here, but I'd have to guess either (a) you're a doctor, or (b) you've BTDT. I really hope it's the former and not the latter...

Well, there is a lot of food for thought here. I checked my physical alignment vis-a-vis the pedals last night and didn't see any reason to be concerned. Since I'm not wider than my seats, my legs appear to go straight out to the pedals. On the other hand, your reference to feet that roll in did ring a bell for me...my father always said that I'm slightly pigeon toed, although I don't notice it myself. Maybe that's playing a role here too. And lately the left knee has been clicking above the cap when I bend to full flex...it sort of feels like a cord under the skin has gotten caught in the wrong place and suddenly snaps back to location. Very weird.

I talked to Kevin about this last night, and from what I gathered, he has adjusted both adjustments. He claims this is the easiest clutch he's ever driven. I responded that it seemed harder to me than I recalled my old Hyundai being (back in the early 90's, the last manual car I ever owned), and he said "much easier than that!"

Maybe, in addition to being too short for the car, I'm also not in such good shape as I thought I was, and my legs are overtired in addition to being overextended. I haven't driven the car since Saturday now (noticed the rebuilt water pump was whining, wiggling and throwing metal on Sunday ) and my legs, especially the left, are feeling oh so much better than they did after just a few days. And that annoying clicking I mentioned above is gone too. By the time the replacement pump gets here next week, I'm hoping to be in great shape!

Now, if I could just afford that whole new clutch pack and master/slave cylinder deal...I'd be perfect!

Edco, thanks so much for your thoughtfulness. PM sent. Twister thanks ya too!

Best, Leslie

Leslie, get under there. Look up. And check if the spring is compressed. More compressed == softer. Mine is now like butter.

Heinrich, I'm gonna do it! Question: Are you concerned at all about the clutch pedal getting stuck in the down position with less pressure on it? That was one thing Kevin mentioned when I asked him to please try readjusting it. How many pounds of pressure do you think you must apply now? More or less than the 30-40 pounds I was guessing I currently have to press?

Thanks, Leslie

I used to have pain in my knees from the 5-speed too, but I moved the seat up a few inches to a point where I could push the clutch pedal all the way in with my right foot. After that, my legs are not extended as far when clutching so no more pain.

Hard to gauge pressure Leslie but I doubt you can get it to stay down by adjusting the spring....

I would like to publicly thank Matt, a/k/a Edco, who has been gracious enough to help me out with his unused and unwanted set of pedal extenders for the price of postage! Matt, you are a wonderful, amazing person, and I am humbled by your kindness and generosity.

Thanks so much!

Has anyone responded to the OP as saying "Yes, the clutch hurts when it falls on my head when removing from the bell housing?"

Sorry guys and girls - I missread the thread title and thought it said "crutch" and did not read any further for lack of 928 content.

Now about that "class ***" avatar?
