Default Changed Pod, Now Tachometer and dash lights dead?

Switched everything out of my old pod, to my new robert Budd pod, all of the switches (lights, fog, haz, defrogger, etc. ) work, but my tach is dead, and so are the lights on the dash. One thought, I might have gotten the two wires on the dimmer switch mixed up, will try reversing them.

Those two connectors that look like the connectors on printers in the 80's with the wide plastic green "wire", is it possible to mix those two up? Also, the one closest to the bottom of the pod, I had that green "wire" come out of the retainer, I put it back best I could.

Any experiences or thoughts greatly appreciated.

If only one the wires came out of the retainer its possible to have it reversed, but not mixed with the other one.

What I suggest is;

Pull the cluster section back out. Check all the ribbon cables and connectors for proper fit and continuity. Then check them against the wiring diagram for orientation.

Hi Scott863,
It would be useful to put the MY of your car in your siganture and we could help better.
Best,
Roger

Sorry,

It's an '81 USA.

There's a plug that I can't figure out where it goes to, I'm thinking it's for the tach. It's shaped liked Indianapolis Motor speedway (4 rounded corners) with two flushly mounted silver contact points, pretty sure it goes with the tach, just cannot find where to put it.

Thanks

All of the gauges and gauge lighting are typically powered by the ribbon cables. Three total, two plug into the bottom of the cluster (at each side) one pulgs into the top passanger side of the cluster.

Three, well I only remember connecting two of them! That would certainly have and effect on things. Any idea where that little sqaure plug with round edges goes? I'm looking in my manuals now.

Thanks!

I can't recall a square plug with round edges when I've removed my pod in the past. Connectors I'm familiar with are:

Rectangular connectors on "ribbon cables"- three that plug into gauge cluster.
Round connector - for cruis/signal/wiper switch
Triangular connectors - two that pulg into the cruise/signal/wiper switch
Five round connectors for pod switches - head lamp, fog, etc.
Headlight dimmer wheel
Wiper delay wheel
Intensive wash button

Some have two, some have three. The wiring diagram shows left, middle, right for your car. Tach is on the middle connector, along with high beam light, central warning light, etc The right connector has oil pressure, oil level, parking brake, etc. and the left one has speedo, low fuel, cluster illumination, etc.
