Default Oil in intake.

I had a problem with my 928 smoking badly on hot restart on three occasions, I could not understand why it would run and start fine for weeks and then all of a sudden have a lot of blue oil smoke when i started it.

I took the intake side panel off today and there was some standing oil in there, I guess that explains the "why", now I have to figure out what to do to rectify the situation.

The only way I can see that it can get into the intake is by the crank case vent system. The motor has good leakdown hot and cold, less than 8% on all cylinders.

I know some one has run into this before, what did you do to correct this?

Here is a picture of the oil, there is a lot in there.
I could tell that the intake has never been off, so I have no way of knowing at what rate the oil gets in there.

Also that gold color is nice, I guess that is what color it was on the outside when it was new.

I know more 928 owners that have run into this vs. those who have not. I suspect those who have not run into this are not looking.

Both of my 928's will gather oil in the intake eventually. My track car goes through 1/4 oil per 20 minute session on the track.

There are many threads on many attempts to fix this problem. If there is a 100% way to fix this (other than a dry sump) I have not heard about it yet.

Tim and Todd have a very slick system on their cars that works great on the street. Has a bug to work out for track use.

I had a problem on a supercharged car once, and I just ran a "draft tube" until I got a catch can set up.

So I take it to be just the nature of the beast and that there is nothing to be concerned over.

I will do a search on the system you are talking about, thanks.

Well I'm sure some are worse than others, but if a leakdown & compression test come out ok.....not sure there is anything I would worry about.

My 81 was blowing blue smoke after it sat for a while Valve guides / seals were bad - this would not cause oil to pool up in the intake though. Maybe you have both going on?

I'm sure more will chime in on this that have played around with tihs issue more than I have.
