I believe PSD was standard. The unit itself is stored in the drver rear fender well behind the tire. If you see what looks like a brake line from there to the trans, you've got PSD. The other way to tell is to put one rear tire on gravel and the other on asphalt and let 'er rip. The gree light should come on. You should consider flushing the PSD unit. It's a great Saturday afternoon project. THe writeup can be found on www.928oc.org.

When the price finally gets to the price of a good used wheel-barrow, there will be an outcry to buy the car...but no one will want to pony up the $35.
BTW, have you noticed that there sure is an obvious lack of cheaply priced 928s "out there" anymore? This list hardly shows any good deals. It's hard to judge the best time for you to replace your 928. The prices are crazy. But you're not going to catch me saying the prices are going down. BTDT and still have the bloody nose.

Quick story. Same owner (2nd) since '98 when he bough the car with 67k from Chuck Olson Chevrolet for a paltry $31k. About 6 months ago, he swerved to avoid another car and jumped a curb.
Tweaked the r/f wheel, messed up the bumper and the rad/oil cooler were destroyed. The force pushed the rad up into the hood giving it a little tweak.
He has removed the rad/oil cooler and stopped there. My plan is complete service/water pump/timing belt, etc., and then replace the rad/oil cooler and whatever else it needs. Then right to my friends bodyshop for paint.
The rest of the car is very nice and straight/clean and always lived inside. Includes books/tools/records. I think the color is called Wimbledon green like this car:
http://www.93gts.com/
I kind of like it although maybe it's called Mint or possibly Signal green, haven't looked at the paint code yet.
Knowing myself, It will have all new tires/brakes/shocks etc., before I'm done. My goal here is just to have a nice, decent driver to replace my departed '92 964 C2 and Ferrari 328GTB that both just exited the building.
Thought or suggestions are welcome. Wish me luck!

I think you're about to prove that there indeed are still some great deals "out there." Keep us posted. It appears that you've done well and you're going about the fix the right way to get it back on the road. It should have years of enjoyment left in it. I like the color BTW,

If all goes to plan, within a month I'll be driving an 89k mile '91 auto S4 with fresh everything. Turns out the car has had the cambelt and waterpump replaced at 68k in 1997 which really is only peace of mind that the car was maintained well since I'm replacing them again.
If my budget holds, I'll be able to squeak in (total cost) under what Mr. Craigslist was originally asking for the car without compromising or cutting corners.

kiesan,
Nice buy and nice plans for fixing it up. Let us know when you're on the road and we'll have to have a little PacNW get together.
And if you havn't already checked out the PacNW 928 group on Yahoo, you might consider signing up. Good bunch there. Its usually pretty quiet on the list, but there are some get togethers and some track days.

Hey guys/gals got a labor question for you. I've a friend with his own shop who will be re-commissioning this little beastie since my own time is limited.
I'm looking at an estimate for new belts (all), front crank and cam seals, tensioner rebuild, p/s pump hoses, front and rear struts, O2 sensor, flexplate tension relief, themostat, dist caps and rotors, new spark plugs, new alternator, fuel and air filter, oil and filter change, tranny and diff fluid.
He's at 31.6 hrs @ $82/per. Does that seem about right?

That looks quite OK to me for a good mechanic's work but I"m assuming a new Tbelt and Water Pump, belt rollers, also. None of that's real difficult...just time consuming.

Tell your friend that I'll be right up, and I have a bunch of jobs for him. In fact, why not re-locate down here? Does that answer your question??

Yes that 31.6 hrs does include the new water pump, t/belt, rollers, seals, etc.
I knew he was fair, just double checking. He is meticulous as well so I know I'm in good hands.
Just a few years ago I'd be tearing into this 'pup myself and not stopping until it was done. Must be getting old.
Should I let or ask him to do the PSD bleeding? Or should I take that to Gerber Motorsport or another shop that has the special tool for remote bleeding?

kiesan,
Maybe that Jah Paul or John Paul, the cross dresser guy who looked like a woman on MTV about a decade ago, owned it. He did a duet with Elton John called "don't go breaking my heart" in 93'. Wouldn't that be a funny history on that car? If you said the car was oriignally in CA or FL, then it would have a much higher chance of being that celebrities car.
Start playing the "crying game" music from Jim Carey's Ace Ventura!
I guess you can sing to your 928 "Dont go breaking my wallet"

We are close... oh so close.
Phase I was tb, tensioner rebuild, wp, mm, oil pan, front seal, oil pump reseal, cam seals, belts, new bilsteins, new used rad, new used fan shroud, new oil cooler, new steering rack, new alternator, new pwr steering pump, front hub repack, diff oil renew, new catless X-pipe, new O2 sensor, new plugs, new caps & rotors, new ff, flex plate detension, wipers, brake fluid flush (pads and rotors look new), new battery, new power steering hoses and a few things I'm forgetting. Phase I was completed at Ralli Round here in Seattle over the course of 2 weeks supplying my own labor.
Phase II was taking the car to Gerber Motorsport. They addressed tranny filter and service, PSD flush, re-attached passenger side window to regulator, replaced missing shift lever screw, replaced passenger door lock alarm actuator, replaced the driver side door lock tumblers, replaced faulty alarm ECU, diagnosed and repaired remote hatch release (new courtesy light switches), re-attached loose door panel interior black trim to the panel itself (both sides), addressed non-retracting driver side headlight, repositioned steering wheel and steering rack linkage, etc. Phase II complete.
Phase III, ride height, alignment, new tires, new r/f wheel almost done. Group 2 in Seattle has it now and we are waiting for new low tire pressure gizmo seals to finish the job. A communication breakdown delayed this about 5 days, supposed to be done with that tomorrow.
Almost there! I have actually driven the car 1 time from Lake Union in Seattle to Magnolia which is about 3 miles. Did it in rush hour traffic and the car had not operated for almost a year at that point. I ran through the heater/AC and all seemed to work normally thank gawd. The car ran like a top and once the lifters stopped clattering around the engine is smooth like I'm guessing it is supposed to be. The interior is nice and tight with no untoward squeaks/rattle/groans.
Next week it is off to Haury's Collision which my friend owns. They do lots of European cars so the work should be tippy top, he once did a front bumper and door skin on my Ferrari 328. Could not tell it had ever had paintwork. My car needs the front bumper cover resprayed and the hood re-aligned and tweaked. No dents on either front fender but he may respray both since there is a previous scratch on the passenger side and would want the entire front to match.
The stock front under/spoiler thing I still have looks serviceable still, and I replaced the missing engine undertray with a new aluminum 928Int unit. The rearmost aluminum tray had a couple broken spot welds that I fixed. I'm also replacing the sheet metal spoiler mount box thing as well as the little flappy doors at the front of the inner fender wells. Brand new foglights too.
Holy cripes reading all this makes me feel tired and poor. These cars are fun to drive and own, right?
